Mauritius competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing, People's Republic of China from August 8 to August 24, 2008. Bruno Julie won Mauritius's first ever medal (bronze) in boxing. Aurélie Marie Halbwachs (born 24 August 1986) is a Mauritian road bicycle racer. She is a four-time winner of Mauritius' Athlete of the Year, winning in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2011. Halbwachs started her career in cycling in 2006 and competed in various local and international tournaments. She competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing in 68th place, and the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's road race, where she failed to finish. Halbwachs was the winner of the time trial at the 2006 African Road Championships, and she won the gold medal in both the road race and the time trial at the 2017 championships. Gennady Gennadiyevich Kovalev (russian: Геннадий Геннадиевич Ковалёв; born 17 May 1983 in Kropotkin, Krasnodar Krai) is a boxer from Russia. Career Southpaw Kovalev won the silver medal at the 2003 World Amateur Boxing Championships defeating Bahodirjon Sooltonov but losing to Aghasi Mammadov at bantam, and a gold medal at the 2004 European Amateur Boxing Championships . Myke Michel de Carvalho (born October 28, 1983 in Belém do Pará) is a Brazilian retired amateur boxer, best known for his participation in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics and for winning bronze medals at the Panamerican Games in 2007 and 2011. Boxing At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Light Welterweight
The light welterweight amateur boxing competition was the median weight class at the 2008 Summer Olympics. The competition was held at the Workers Indoor Arena. Light welterweights were limited to a maximum of 64 kilograms in body mass. Like all Olympic boxing events, the competition was a straight single-elimination tournament. Both semifinal losers were awarded bronze medals, so no boxers competed again after their first loss. Bouts consisted of four rounds of two minutes each, with one-minute breaks between rounds. Punches scored only if the white area on the front of the glove made full contact with the front of the head or torso of the opponent. Five judges scored each bout; three of the judges had to signal a scoring punch within one second for the punch to score. The winner of the bout was the boxer who scored the most valid punches by the end of the bout. He qualified for the 2008 Olympics at junior welterweight at the 2nd AIBA African 2008 Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Yankiel León Alarcón (born 26 April 1982 in Jobabo) is a Cuban amateur boxer best known to win Silver at the 2008 Olympics at bantamweight. Khurshid Tadjibayev/Hoorshid Tojibaev (13 November 1989) is an Uzbek professional and former amateur boxer who competed at bantamweight at the 2008 Olympics and at lightweight at the 2016 Olympics.
