Maureen Baker (doctor)
Maureen Baker (born 20 September 1958) is a Scottish medical doctor who was Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) from 2013 to 2016. She was previously Honorary Secretary of the RCGP from 1999 to 2009. Early life and education Baker was born in Motherwell on 20 September 1958. Her parents were Helen and William Murphy. She was educated at the Holy Cross High School in Hamilton. After school, she studied medicine at the University of Dundee, graduating with MB, ChB in 1981. She then attended the University of Nottingham, obtaining a DM. Career From 1985 to 2000, she worked as a general practitioner in Lincoln. Early in her career, she was involved with teaching. She joined Connecting for Health in 2007. She is Clinical Director for Patient Safety at the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC). FRCGP
The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) is the professional body for general practitioners, general (medical) practitioners (GPs/Family Physicians/Primary care physician, Primary Care Physicians) in the United Kingdom. The RCGP represents and supports GPs on key issues including licensing, education, training, research and clinical standards. It is the largest of the medical royal colleges, with over 50,000 members. The RCGP was founded in 1952 in London, England and is a Charitable organization, registered charity. The NHS Connecting for Health (CFH) agency was part of the UK Department of Health and was formed on 1 April 2005, having replaced the former NHS Information Authority. It was part of the Department of Health Informatics Directorate, with the role to maintain and develop the NHS national IT infrastructure. It adopted the responsibility of delivering the NHS National Programme for IT (NPfIT), an initiative by the Department of Health to move the National Health Service (NHS) in England towards a single, centrally-mandated electronic care record for patients and to connect 30,000 general practitioners to 300 hospitals, providing secure and audited access to these records by authorised health professionals. Commander Of The Most Excellent Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Dame Helen Jayne Stokes-Lampard (born October 1970) is a British medical academic and a general practitioner. She is Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) a GP Principal and Chair of the National Academy for Social Prescribing (NASP). She was Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) from November 2016 to November 2019. She is also a Professor of GP Education at Birmingham University and a visiting Chair at St George's Medical School in London. She has a particular interest in women's health. Early life Helen Jayne Stokes was born in October 1970, the daughter of a headmaster. She grew up in Swansea, South Wales. She qualified in Medicine from St George's Hospital Medical School, London, in 1996 where she was President of the Students' Union.
