Maude Frazier
Maude Frazier (April 4, 1881 – June 20, 1963) was an American politician. She was the first female Lieutenant Governor of Nevada. Before entering politics, Frazier was a teacher, principal and school superintendent. She was a member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party Frazier served in the Nevada Assembly from her first election in 1950 until 1962, when she was appointed Lieutenant Governor by Gov. Grant Sawyer to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Rex Bell. She served the remaining six months in Bell's term, retired and died within a year of leaving office. Grant Sawyer
Frank Grant Sawyer (December 14, 1918 – February 19, 1996) was an American politician. He was the List of Governors of Nevada, 21st Governor of Nevada from 1959 to 1967. He was a member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party. Early life Sawyer was born on December 14, 1918, in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was the son of two osteopaths, Harry William Sawyer, Harry William and Bula Belle Cameron Sawyer. Sawyer's father was also a state legislator in Nevada. Sawyer served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Bette Norene Hoge on August 1, 1946. Education Sawyer attended Linfield College for two years and later enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he graduated in 1941. Lieutenant Governors Of Nevada
The lieutenant governor of Nevada is a constitutional officer in the executive branch of government of the U.S. state of Nevada. The lieutenant governor maintains an office in Carson City, Nevada at the Nevada State Capitol and is elected separately from the Governor, and may therefore be from a different party than the Governor. The incumbent lieutenant governor is Stavros Anthony, a Republican. He was sworn in in January 2023. The governor has the authority to appoint a replacement to fill the balance of the term in any vacant constitutional office, including that of the lieutenant governor, subject to Senate confirmation. As of January 18, 2023, there are 22 women currently serving (excluding acting capacity) as lieutenant governors in the United States. Overall, 118 women have served (including acting capacity). Women have been elected lieutenant governor from 40 of the 50 states. The Nevada Assembly is the lower house of the Nevada Legislature, the state legislature (United States), state legislature of the U.S. state of Nevada, the upper house being the Nevada Senate. The body consists of 42 members, elected to two-year terms from single-member districts. Each district contained approximately 64,299 people as of the 2010 United States Census. Rex Bell (born George Francis Beldam; October 16, 1903 – July 4, 1962) was an American actor and politician. Bell primarily appeared in Western films during his career. He also appeared in the 1930 movie ''True to the Navy'', starring Clara Bow; Bell and Bow married the following year. Bell later became involved in politics with the Nevada Republican Party and was the 21st Lieutenant Governor of Nevada from 1955 until his death in 1962. Early years Bell was born George Francis Beldam in Chicago on October 16, 1903. Film career Bell made his film debut in '' Wild West Romance'' in 1928, and went on to act in a number of films, mostly Westerns, in which he had the lead role.
