Matus Bisnovat
Matus Ruvimovich Bisnovat (russian: Матус Рувимович Бисноват, 23 October 1905, Nikopol – 8 November 1977) was a Soviet aircraft and missile designer. Bisnovat attended the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI), graduating in 1931. In 1938, he headed a research team in Central Aero-Hydrodynamics Institute TsAGI, Zhukovsky, where several high-speed experimental airplanes were developed, the SK-1, SK-2 and SK-3. From 1942 - 1944 Bisnovat oversaw the development of the "302" rocket/ramjet fighter in NII-3, supervised by Andrey Kostikov. In 1946 he became head of Plant no. 293 and a team of engineers formerly in the OKB-293 of Viktor Bolkhovitinov. There Bisnovat managed some later work on the Bereznyak- Isaev BI-1 Rocket-powered aircraft. In 1948, with engine designer Aleksei Isaev he worked on the supersonic aircraft " Bisnovat 5". Irvin Leigh Matus (July 25, 1941 – January 5, 2011) was an independent scholar, autodidact, and author. He is best known as an authority on Shakespeare, but also wrote about aspects of Brooklyn's history such as the Vitagraph Studios, and developed a method of modelling baseball statistics. He was a scholar-in-residence at Shepherd University for the academic year 1992-1993. He was based in Washington, DC. Early life Matus's father was manager of the Western Union office in Times Square. The late congressman Stephen J. Solarz was his cousin. Matus was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, where he lived until 1971. He graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in 1958, and briefly studied commercial art at the Pratt Institute in New York. His primary interests at the time focused on baseball, American history and rhythm and blues, his musical interests being influenced by his early friendship with Alan Freed. Alejandra Matus Acuña is a Chilean journalist and writer. In 1999 she published ''El libro negro de la justicia chilena'' (lit. " The Black Book of Chilean Justice"). The available copies of the book were confiscated one day before the planned release and Matus was accused by Servando Jordán, minister of the Supreme Court of Chile, of the delict of "desacato" ("contempt") invoking the article 6-B of the Ley de Seguridad del Estado (State Security Law). This prompted Matus to apply for—and receive—political asylum in the United States. The case led to the "desacato" article to be removed from the law with the new Ley de Prensa (Press Law) that was signed on May 25 of 2001 which allowed Matus to return to Chile. Despite the new law the book continued to be banned until October 2001 when the Corte de Apelaciones (Appellate Court) removed the ban.
