Matthijs Van Heijningen Jr.
Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. (, born 26 July 1965 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch filmmaker, writer and producer best known for directing ''The Thing'' (2011). Career Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. began directing at an early age with promotional trailers for Toyota, Peugeot, Renault, Stella Artois, Pepsi, and Bud Light. In 1996, van Heijningen made his film directing debut with the Dutch short-film thriller ''Red Rain''. In 2011, he directed '' The Thing'', a prequel to '' John Carpenter's The Thing''. Van Heijningen was due to direct ''Army of the Dead'', but the project ended up being directed by Zack Snyder after lingering in development hell for a number of years. ''The Forgotten Battle'' ( nl, De Slag om de Schelde) is a 2020 Dutch World War II film directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. that depicts the Battle of the Scheldt in 1944. It is part of the Ciske trilogy which was written between 1941 (publication was however delayed by paper shortages until 1942) and 1946. The book was published in more than ten countries. Battle Of The Scheldt
The Battle of the Scheldt in World War II was a series of military operations led by the First Canadian Army, with Polish and British units attached, to open up the shipping route to Antwerp so that its port could be used to supply the Allies in north-west Europe. Under acting command of the First Canadian's Lieutenant-General Guy Simonds, the battle took place in northern Belgium and southwestern Netherlands from 2 October to 8 November 1944.
