Matthijs Röling
Matthijs Nicolaas Röling (born March 31, 1943 in Oostkapelle) is a Dutch painter, active as graphic designer, wall painter, painter, draftsman, lithographer, pen artist, etcher, and academy lecturer. He is considered a kindred spirit of the 3rd generation of the Dutch Group of figurative abstraction. Röling is described as the "figurehead of contemporary figurative painting in the Netherlands." Life and work Röling was educated at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague from 1960 to 1963, and at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam in 1963-1964. His first museum exhibition took place in 1965 in the Drents Museum in Assen. In 1972 he became a lecturer at the Academie Minerva in Groningen, where he educated Peter Pander, Douwe Elias and Jan van der Kooi. He also lectured at the Classical Academy for fine art in Groningen. His artistic breakthrough came in 1976 with a series of still lifes, which he called ''cabinets.'' Marte Röling
Marte Röling (Born 16 December 1939) is a Dutch artist and actress. Life and work Röling was born as the second child of Gé Röling and Martine Antonie (actually: Tonny Grolle). Her parents were both artists. From the age of sixteen, she studied drawing and painting at the Rijksakademie van visual arts in Amsterdam, where she was taught by her father, among others. From 1959, she exhibited in Europe and the United States. She is known for her large paintings and sculptures. In the 1960s, she was asked by Jeanne Roos, fashion editor at Het Parool, to make fashion drawings. Domburg
Domburg is a seaside resort on the North Sea, on the northwest coast of Walcheren in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Veere, and lies about 11 km northwest of the city of Middelburg, the provincial capital. Demographics In 2010, the town of Domburg had 1,490 inhabitants, up from 1,251 in 2001. The built-up area of the town was 0.78 km2, and contained 881 residences. History The area of Domburg has been inhabited since at least 4,000 BCE. In 1647 after heavy storms on the beach of Domburg a sanctuary was discovered with around 40 stones with Latin inscriptions and carvings of several gods, among them of Neptune (sea) and Mercury (trade), but the majority of a local female deity: Nehalennia who appears to have protected both trade and shipping. Scheringa Museum Of Realist Art
Scheringa Museum of Realist Art (until 2005, Frisia Museum) was a museum in Spanbroek, North Holland, the Netherlands that housed around five hundred works of the 20th-century art mainly realist art and contemporary. It opened in February 1997 and closed in 2009. After the DSB Bank went bankrupt, the collection was retained by ABN AMRO as a guarantee, and this forced the closure of the museum. Later, the collection passed to the Deutsche Bank, which decided to sell it to an undisclosed individual for 14 million Euro. The plans were stopped in 2011 by a court in Amsterdam, which decided that the price was too low. In March 2012, the Dutch part of the collection was bought by Hans Melchers. Bert Röling
Bernard Victor Aloysius "Bert" Röling (26 December 1906 – 16 March 1985) was a Dutch jurist and founding father of polemology in the Netherlands. Between 1946 and 1948 he acted as the Dutch representative for the International Military Tribunal for the Far East. Childhood and education Röling was born in 's-Hertogenbosch as a son of journalist Gerardus Röling and Christina Maria Dorothea Taverne. He had an older brother, the painter . Röling studied law at Radboud University Nijmegen and Utrecht University. At the latter he graduated cum laude in 1933 with his dissertation ("Legislation against so-called professional and habitual criminals"), awarded a prize by the University of Groningen. Oostkapelle
Oostkapelle is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Veere, and lies about 9 km north of Middelburg. Oostkapelle was a separate municipality until 1966, when it was merged with Domburg. History The village was first mentioned in 1162 as tHoostcapelle, and means "eastern chapel". Oost (east) has been added to distinguish from Westkapelle. Oostkapelle developed as a circular church village in the Early Middle Ages on a ridge. Westhove Castle was built to the west of the village in 1277 and was owned by the Middelburg Abbey. The Dutch Reformed church is a single aisled church with an attached consistory. The large tower was constructed in the late-15th century. The nave was destroyed in 1572 and rebuilt in 1585. In 1610, the medieval remainder was demolished and rebuilt.
