Matthias-Grünewald-Verlag is a German Roman Catholic publishing house founded in Mainz, see of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mainz. Mainz was famous for its culture of Catholic publishing houses, where the catholic intelligence was able to publish their intellectual property. History Origin of name The Matthias-Grünewald-Verlag is named after the painter and graphic artist Matthias Grünewald, who is regarded as an important German representative of the Renaissance. History of the publishing house The publishing house was founded in 1918 in the environment of the so-called Bible Movement and the Liturgical Movement in Mainz. Pinchas Lapide
Pinchas Lapide (28 November 1922 – 23 October 1997) was a Jewish theologian and Israeli historian. He was an Israeli diplomat from 1951 to 1969, among other position acting as Israeli Consul to Milan, and was instrumental in gaining recognition for the young state of Israel. He wrote more than 35 books during his lifetime. Lapide was married to Ruth Lapide with whom he shared his interests and endeavors. An ''Amtsgericht'' (District Court) in Germany is an official court. These courts form the lowest level of the so-called ' ordinary jurisdiction' of the German judiciary (German ''Ordentliche Gerichtsbarkeit''), which is responsible for most criminal and civil judicial matters. The German ''Amtsgericht'' may be compared to the magistrates' courts in England and Wales, although it has much broader sentencing powers. Josef Pieper (; 4 May 1904 – 6 November 1997) was a German Catholic philosopher and an important figure in the resurgence of interest in the thought of Thomas Aquinas in early-to-mid 20th-century philosophy. Among his most notable works are ''The Four Cardinal Virtues: Prudence, Justice, Fortitude, Temperance''; ''Leisure, the Basis of Culture''; and ''Guide to Thomas Aquinas'' (published in England as ''Introduction to Thomas Aquinas''). Otto Hermann Pesch (8 October 1931 in Köln – 8 September 2014) was a German Roman Catholic theologian. Pesch became member of the Dominican order 1952 and was ordained priest 1958, but 1972 left the order and was married. From 1975 to 1998 he was a professor of systematic theology in the University of Hamburg, as a Roman Catholic in a Protestant department of theology. As an ecumenical theologian Pesch was a disciple of Heinrich Fries. He made his doctoral thesis 1965 about doctrine of justification comparing Martin Luther and Thomas Aquinas. Walter Kasper (born 5 March 1933) is a German Catholic cardinal and theologian. He is President Emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, having served as its president from 2001 to 2010. Early life Born in Heidenheim an der Brenz, Germany, Kasper was ordained a priest on 6 April 1957 by Bishop Carl Leiprecht of Rottenburg. From 1957 to 1958 he was a parochial vicar in Stuttgart. He returned to his studies and earned a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the University of Tübingen.
