Matt Welsh
Matthew James Welsh (born 18 November 1976) is an Australian swimmer who is the former world champion in the backstroke and butterfly. He took two golds in 50-meter butterfly and 50-meter backstroke, during one hour, at the World Championships in Shanghai 2006. Welsh retired from professional swimming in March 2008 when he failed to secure a place in the team for the Beijing Olympics. Early years Welsh started swimming in his final years at Scotch College, Melbourne and moved into competitive swimming in 1995 after leaving school at the age of eighteen. He trained under coach Ian Pope at the Melbourne Vicentre Club. His first big break came in 1998 at the world swimming championships in Perth, Western Australia with a gold in the 4x100-metre medley relay. Patti Newton
Patricia Anne Newton (née McGrath; born 4 February 1945) is an Australian singer, actress, dancer, stage performer and radio and television presenter. Life and career Prior to her marriage, Newton worked under her birth name, Patti McGrath, when she appeared on programs such as the ''Tarax Show'' and ''The Graham Kennedy Show''. In 1967, she won the Logie Award for Most Popular Female in Victoria. She has appeared in many stage shows, and has made television appearances on '' Good Morning Australia'' and the Logie Awards. Newton was married to fellow Australian entertainer Bert Newton from 9 November 1974 until his death on 30 October 2021. She often appeared with him and Bert Newton sometimes referred to her as "Patricia Anne Therese Bernadette McGrath Newton". She is the mother of Lauren and Matthew Newton. FINA World Swimming Championships (25 M)
The FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) or "Short Course Worlds" as they are sometimes known, is an international swimming competition. It is swum in a short course (25m) pool, and has been held in the years when FINA has not held its long course World Aquatics Championships (currently this means in even years). Unlike the FINA World Aquatics Championships, this championship is swimming-only (the World Championships feature all 5 Aquatics disciplines), and is contested in a short course, 25-meter pool (rather than a long course, 50-meter pool).
