Matt Leacock
Matt Leacock is an American board game designer, most known for cooperative games such as Pandemic (board game), Pandemic, Pandemic (board game), Pandemic Legacy: Season 1, Forbidden Island (game), Forbidden Island and Forbidden Desert. Early life Leacock grew up in Long Lake, Minnesota. He studied visual communication at Northern Illinois University. Career Matt designed ''Pandemic'', published in 2008 by Z-Man Games. Leacock had previously worked as a developer of social media and as a user experience designer, primarily in community and communications products for AOL and Yahoo. He switched to designing board games full time in July 2014. Pandemic (board game), Pandemic Legacy: Season 1, which Leacock co-designed with Rob Daviau, has been rated very highly among board gamers and by the website Board Game Geek on its board game rankings. Lucca Comics & Games is an annual Comic book convention, comic book and gaming convention in Lucca, Italy, traditionally held at the end of October, in conjunction with All Saints' Day. It is the largest comics festival in Europe, and the second biggest in the world after the Comiket. History The Salone Internazionale del Comics ("International Congress of Comics") was launched by a Franco-Italian partnership, consisting of Italians Rinaldo Traini and Romano Calisi and Frenchman (forming the International Congress of Cartoonists and Animators) in 1965 in Bordighera. In 1966, it moved to a small piazza in the center of Lucca, and grew in size and importance over the years. Funding issues reduced the frequency of the festival to every two years, beginning in 1977. In the 1980s, the festival was moved to a sports center outside the city walls, where it remained until 1992, when it was moved to another city. ''Daybreak'' is an upcoming cooperative board game that models the technological and political response to climate change. It is designed by ''Pandemic (board game), Pandemic'' creator Matt Leacock and Matteo Menapace, and will be published by CMYK. It has no set release date. Gameplay Throughout the game, the Earth's temperature begins to rise. Simultaneously, players must contend with crisis events, such as droughts, wildfires, rising sea levels, each exacerbated by Earth's rising temperature. Players assume the role of national superpowers or coalitions (the United States, China, Europe, or the Global South), which each have traits to combat the ecological circumstances. For example, the United States has research and development and China has direct economic control.
