Matt Jones (American Politician)
Matt Jones is an American politician from Colorado. A Democrat, he served in both the Colorado Senate and the Colorado House of Representatives at two different times, and as a Boulder County Commissioner. Jones represented the 17th Senate district, which includes Louisville, Lafayette, and portions of Longmont and Erie. Jones previously served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1987 to 1993 in the 34th House District which included unincorporated Adams County and Federal Heights, and from 2011 to 2013 in the 12th House District which included Louisville, Lafayette and part of Longmont. Jones graduated from Colorado State University with a B.A. in political science, as well as an M.A. in political science - natural resource policy. Colorado's 17th Senate district is one of 35 districts in the Colorado Senate. It has been represented by Democrat Sonya Jaquez Lewis since 2021, succeeding appointed Democrat Mike Foote, who chose not to seek re-election. Geography District 17 is based in eastern Boulder County, covering Lafayette, Louisville, most of Longmont, and parts of Erie. The district is split between Colorado's 2nd and 4th congressional districts, and overlaps with the 11th, 12th, and 33rd districts of the Colorado House of Representatives. Boulder County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado of the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 330,758. The most populous municipality in the county and the county seat is Boulder.
