Matt Elias
Matthew John "Matt" Elias (born 26 April 1979) is a retired Welsh athlete who specialised in the 400 metres sprint and 400 metres hurdles. During his international career he represented Great Britain. In 2003 he won a gold medal at the European Championships and at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he finished 5th in the 4 × 400 m relay, He is also a part of Super Schools. He won the European Under 23 Championships for the 400m hurdles in 2001 in a time of 49.57. The following year he was to have his most prolific season winning two silver medals in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Elias was born in Cardiff. Biography Matthew Elias was born in 1979 in Cardiff, Wales, one of two sons born to John Elias and Kathryn (née Hutchinson), the other being Ben (born 1976). 2001 IAAF World Indoor Championships
The 8th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics were held at the Pavilhão Atlântico in Lisbon, Portugal from March 9 to March 11, 2001. Daniel Caines
Daniel Stephen Caines (born 15 May 1979) is an English former athlete who mainly competed in the 400 metres. Early life Caines was born in Solihull. He was educated at Solihull School, a British independent school in the affluent West Midlands town of Solihull. He has a Kittian descent and grew up with an Adventist background. Chris Rawlinson
Christopher "Chris" Lee Rawlinson (born 19 May 1972) is a former track and field athlete who competed in the 400 metre hurdles. He also appeared in Gladiators (UK series 4), the 1995 series of the TV series ''Gladiators (1992 British TV series), Gladiators''. After trying the pole vault, decathlon and 110 m hurdles in his early career, Rawlinson found the gruelling 400 m hurdles to be his best event. A graduate of Loughborough University, until 2020 Rawlinson held the List of world records in athletics, world best of 34.48 seconds for the rarely run 300 m hurdles, which he set at Sheffield, England on 30 June 2002. In July 2004 he ranked third on the United Kingdom all-time list for the 400 m hurdles with a time of 48.14 seconds, set in 1999 at Zurich, Switzerland. Iwan Thomas
Iwan Gwyn Thomas (born 5 January 1974) is a Welsh sprinter who represented Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the Olympic Games in the 400 metres, and Wales at the Commonwealth Games. Thomas is a former European, Commonwealth Games and World (4 × 400 m relay) champion. Thomas is the former UK 400m record holder, with his time of 44.36s set in Birmingham on 13 July 1997 standing until Matthew Hudson-Smith broke the record in May 2022. He was also a member of the team which holds the UK 4 × 400 m Relay record of 2:56.60, set in Atlanta, USA in the Olympic final on 3 August 1996. 2002 Commonwealth Games
The 2002 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XVII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Manchester 2002 were held in Manchester, England, from 25 July to 4 August, 2002. The 2002 Games were to be hosted in the United Kingdom to coincide with the Golden Jubilee of Elizabeth II, head of the Commonwealth, and Manchester was selected for the 2002 Games ahead of London using a recycled part of the project, which lost the 2000 Summer Olympics and Paralympics to Sydney, Australia.
