Matmatah is a French rock band, established in 1995 in Brest, Brittany. History The band was established in 1995 when Tristan Nihouarn, who at the time was a student pursuing study of Advanced Mathematics in Brest (western Brittany, France), met Cédric Floc'h who was studying electric engineering in the same city, where they both come from. Both were guitarists and together formed a ''chanson'' and guitar duo called the Tricards Twins, playing in a number of bars and pubs in Brittany. They developed a repertoire for playing songs from the sixties and seventies, with the Beatles, Neil Young and Simon and Garfunkel figuring prominently among their influences. In one of their shows, they met bassist Eric Digaire and drummer Jean-François Paillard. Together, they formed Matmatah, named after Matmata, the village in Tunisia in which Nihouarn had lived during his childhood. Simon And Garfunkel
Simon & Garfunkel were an American folk rock duo consisting of the singer-songwriter Paul Simon and the singer Art Garfunkel. They were one of the best-selling music groups of the 1960s, and their biggest hits—including the electric remix of " The Sound of Silence" (1965), "Mrs. Robinson" (1968), "The Boxer" (1969), and " Bridge over Troubled Water" (1970)—reached number one on singles charts worldwide. ''Plates Coutures'' ("Flat Sewings", defeated) is the fifth studio album by French rock band Matmatah. It was released in France on 3 March 2017. ''Marrée Haute'' ("High Tide") is the first extract of the eleven new songs. The album was released after a 9-year absence. Conception The album's recording began in secret as the members began working on the project one year before announcing the group's reformation. A new guitarist joined the band, Emmanuel Baroux, who collaborated with Axel Bauer and Astonvilla. Matmatah traveled to West Yorkshire, England to begin recording in August 2016. Guitarist Bruno Green (Detroit) was in charge of production. In October, the songs were mixed at ICP studios in Brussels. Mastering took place at Abbey Road Studios in London. Matmata, Tunisia
Matmata ( ar, مطماطة '; Berber: ⵎⴰⵜⵎⴰⵜⴰ) is a small Berber speaking town in southern Tunisia. Some of the local Berber residents live in traditional underground "troglodyte" structures. In 2004 it had a population of 2,116. The structures typical for the village are created by digging a large pit in the ground. Around the perimeter of this pit artificial caves are then dug to be used as rooms, with some homes comprising multiple pits, connected by trench-like passageways. History It was not generally known until 1969 that there were regular settlements in this area besides wandering nomadic tribes. That year, intensive rains that lasted for 22 days inundated the troglodyte homes and caused many of them to collapse.
