Matina is a canton in the Limón Limón (), commonly known as Puerto Limón, is a district, the capital city and main hub of Limón province, as well as of the Limón canton in Costa Rica. History Matina was created on 24 June 1969 by decree 4344. Geography Matina has an area of km² and a mean elevation of metres. The canton includes the Caribbean coast between the mouths of the Pacuare River to the north and the Toro River to the south. It lies between the Madre de Dios River on the northwest side and the Toro River on the east, and ranges as far south at the Boyei River in the Cordillera de Talamanca. Cantons Of Costa Rica
Costa Rica is administratively divided into seven provinces which are subdivided into 83 cantons, and these are further subdivided into districts. Cantons are the only administrative division in Costa Rica that possess local government in the form of municipalities. Each municipality has its own mayor and several representatives, all of them chosen via municipal elections every four years. The original 14 cantons were established in 1848, and the number has risen gradually by the division of existing cantons. Law no. 4366 of 19 August 1969, which outlines the creation of administrative divisions of Costa Rica, states that new cantons may only be created if they have at least one percent of the republic's total population, which was as of the last census (2011). National Primary Route 32, or just Route 32 ( es, Ruta Nacional Primaria 32, or ) is a National Road Route of Costa Rica, located in the San José, Heredia, Limón provinces. It connects the central valley and Greater Metropolitan Area to the Caribbean coast of the country.
