''Matalo!'' (also spelled as ''Mátalo'') is a 1970 Italian Spaghetti Western film directed by Cesare Canevari. The film is considered among the most original western ever produced in Italy.Dossier Nocturno n. 31, ''Ai confini del western. Zone d'ombra del genere all'italiana''. It is characterized from a greater weight given to psychology over action, an almost total lack of dialogues, an innovative soundtrack and the use by the lead character of a boomerang as his only weapon. Cesare Canevari
Cesare Canevari (13 October 1927 - 25 October 2012) was an Italian actor, director and screenwriter. Life and career Born in Milan, Canevari began his career shortly after World War II as a stage actor, occasionally also appearing in films in minor roles. Variously referred to as "a genius ahead of his time", "a master of genre cinema" and "one of the less labelable directors of Italian genre cinema", he directed nine films between 1964 and 1983. Often characterized by an unusual style, his films ranged through different genres, including noir, Nazisploitation, Spaghetti Western, giallo and melodrama. Spaghetti Western
The Spaghetti Western is a broad subgenre of Western films produced in Europe. It emerged in the mid-1960s in the wake of Sergio Leone's film-making style and international box-office success. The term was used by foreign critics because most of these Westerns were produced and directed by Italians. Leone's films and other core Spaghetti Westerns are often described as having eschewed, criticized, or even "demythologized" many of the conventions of traditional U.S. Westerns. This was partly intentional and partly the context of a different cultural background. Terminology According to veteran Spaghetti Western actor Aldo Sambrell, the phrase "Spaghetti Western" was coined by Spanish journalist Alfonso Sánchez in reference to the Italian food spaghetti. Antonio Salines
Antonio Salines (1 July 1936 – 22 June 2021) was an Italian actor and director. Biography Born in La Spezia, the son of the composer Enrico, at ten years old Salines started his career as a child actor, appearing in several stage works in the theatrical company of Franco Sportelli. In 1959 he graduated from the Silvio D'Amico Academy of Dramatic Arts in Rome, and in 1960 he entered the stage company of Vittorio Gassman. Alongside a busy career on stage, Salines has appeared in a large number of television movies and series and in several films. Salines was also a stage director, and in 1991 he directed the film ''Zio Vanja'', based on Anton Chekhov's ''Uncle Vanya''. He was married to the actress Flavia Milante. Claudia Gravy (born 12 May 1945) is a Spanish nationalized actress born as Marie-Claude Perin in Boma, Democratic Republic of the Congo when it was the Belgian Congo. Lou Castel
Lou Castel (born Ulv Quarzell; 28 May 1943) is a Swedish actor who became known through his work in Italian films. Life and career The son of a Swedish father and an Irish mother, Castel was born Ulv Quarzell in Bogotá, Colombia, where his father was working as a diplomat. He and his twin brother grew up in Cartagena. When Castel was 6, his parents separated. He followed his mother to Europe and went to school in London, briefly at Dartington Hall School with his sister Solveig, then in Stockholm. He subsequently went to live in Rome where his mother was working in the local film industry. A communist, Castel's mother also introduced her son to politics. Corrado Pani (4 March 1936 – 2 March 2005) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Life and career Born in Rome, Pani began his career playing the role of Jesus as a child in a Radio Vaticana radio drama. He made his film debut in 1953, with a minor role in Dino Risi's ''Il viale della speranza''. In 1955 he had first major theatrical role, in ''Thè e simpatia''. 64th Venice International Film Festival
The 64th annual Venice International Film Festival, held in Venice, Italy, opened on 29 August 2007, with Joe Wright's ''Atonement'' and closed 8 September 2007.
