The Formby Hall Challenge was a golf tournament on the Challenge Tour that was played annually from 1996 to 2002. It was also an event on the third-tier MasterCard Tour. With the merger of the MasterCard and Europro tours to form the PGA EuroPro Tour The PGA EuroPro Tour was a men's developmental professional golf tour. Formby
Formby is a town and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, Merseyside, England, which had a population of 22,419 at the 2011 Census. Historically in Lancashire, three manors are recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 under "Fornebei", Halsall, Walton and Poynton. Cockle raking and shrimp fishing lasted into the 19th century. By 1872, the township and sub-district was made up of two chapelries ( St Peter's and St Luke's), Birkdale township, the hamlets of Ainsdale and Raven-Meols and Altcar parish. The tour started as the Satellite Tour with its first Order of Merit rankings in 1989 and was officially renamed as the Challenge Tour at the start of the 1990 season. Greg Owen (golfer)
Gregory Clive Owen (born 19 February 1972) is an English professional golfer. Career Owen was born in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He turned professional in 1992 and gained his European Tour card at the 1997 qualifying school. He finished in the top 100 of the Order of Merit every year from 1998 to 2004, and won for the first time on tour at the 2003 Daily Telegraph Damovo British Masters at his 158th tournament. Richard Bland (golfer)
Richard Bland (born 3 February 1973) is an English professional golfer. Career Bland was born in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. He turned professional in 1996 and reached the final stage of the European Tour's qualifying school in 1997 to gain his card on Europe's second tier Challenge Tour for 1998. In 2001 he won for the first time, at the season ending Challenge Tour Grand Final. The win elevated him in the rankings sufficiently to gain a place on the European Tour for 2002. During his first season on the European Tour, Bland’s best tournament finish was a tie for 2nd place at the Murphy's Irish Open, losing in a playoff, and ended the year in 73rd place on the Order of Merit. In subsequent seasons, he failed to win enough money to maintain his card on the European Tour several times but regained his playing status each time, via the Challenge Tour rankings in 2004, 2008, and 2019, and via qualifying school in 2007 and 2011. Robert Lee (golfer)
Robert Lee (born 12 October 1961) is an English professional golfer and television presenter. Lee was born in London. He turned professional in 1982 and was in his prime from 1985 to 1987, finishing in the top thirty of the European Tour Order of Merit each of those years. He twice shot 27 for nine holes on the tour, first at the 1985 Monte Carlo Open, and again two years later at the 1987 Portuguese Open. He went on to win the latter, one of his two victories on the European Tour. He also seriously competed for the 1985 Open Championship in the opening rounds. He was in second place after the first round and only two back after the second round. He faded over the weekend but picked up a top-25 finish. Simon Khan
Simon Khan (born 16 June 1972) is an English professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. Khan turned professional in 1991 but spent many years struggling to establish his tournament career. His first full season on the European Tour was 2002 and his first European Tour win came at the 2004 Celtic Manor Wales Open. In 2006 he finished second at the prestigious BMW Championship to earn €472,220, which was his biggest prize cheque up to that time. His best year-end ranking on the European Order of Merit has been 25th in 2006 and 2010. He has featured in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Rankings. Fredrik Henge
Fredrik Henge (born 30 December 1974) is a Swedish professional golfer. Henge was born in Lund and turned professional in 1997. He has earned his place on the top level European Tour several times, the first via qualifying school at the end of 1997 and twice by his position on the Challenge Tour Rankings but has failed to win enough money on each occasion to retain his card. Henge has had most of his success on the second tier Challenge Tour, where he has won five tournaments, two in both 1997 and 2000, when he finished seventh on the end of season rankings, and one in 2004.
