John Mellor (judge)
Sir John Mellor (1 January 1809 – 26 April 1887) was an English judge and Member of Parliament. Life Mellor was born in Hollinwood, Oldham and raised in Leicester, where his father was mayor and a Justice of the Peace. As a young man, his Unitarian beliefs prevented Mellor attending university. He entered law, becoming Queen's Counsel in 1833. Following failed attempts in 1852 (at Warwick) and 1857 (at Coventry) he was elected to Parliament to represent Great Yarmouth in 1857, and Nottingham in 1859. He was appointed to the Queen's Bench in 1861 and knighted in 1862. Mellor was one of the two judges at the special commission set up in Manchester in 1867 to try those accused of the murder of Police Sergeant Charles Brett. John Graham Mellor (21 August 1952 – 22 December 2002), known professionally as Joe Strummer, was a British singer, musician and songwriter. He was the co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and co-lead vocalist of punk rock band the Clash, formed in 1976. The Clash's second album ''Give 'Em Enough Rope'' (1978) reached No. 2 on the UK charts. Soon after, they achieved success in the US, starting with ''London Calling'' (1979) and peaking with '' Combat Rock'' (1982), which reached No. 7 on the US charts and was certified 2× platinum there. Sir John Paget Mellor, 1st Baronet, (13 March 1862 – 4 February 1929) was an English lawyer and U.K. Treasury Solicitor. John Williams Mellor
John Williams Mellor (born December 28, 1928) is a French-born American economist, known for his work in the field of economic and agricultural development in third world countries. In 1985, he was awarded the Wihuri International Prize, for his “constructive work that has remarkably promoted and developed the security of nutrient supply for mankind.” A Fulbright Scholar, he spent most of his academic career at his alma mater, Cornell University. In the early 1970s, he became an economist for USAID, eventually becoming their chief economist in 1976. After leaving USAID, he became the second director-general of the International Food Policy Research Institute in 1977, where he remained until 1990. He has authored numerous articles, and several books, chiefly regarding economic and agricultural development in third world countries. John William Mellor (born 1896, date of death unknown) was an English footballer who played for New Mills and Port Vale in the 1920s. Career Mellor played for New Mills, before joining Port Vale in an amateur capacity in April 1920. He made nine Second Division appearances in the 1920–21 season before returning to old club New Mills, most probably sometime in 1922. However, he rejoined the Vale in July 1923, this time signing as a professional.
