Masia Freixa
The Masia Freixa is a modernisme building located in Parc de Sant Jordi in Terrassa (Catalonia, Spain). History Designed in 1896 to be a textile factory, the actual form of the building was planned in 1907 when Catalan industrialist Josep Freixa decided to transform his factory into a family residence and entrusted the work to the architect Lluís Muncunill. The building has a rectangular floorplan covered by a structure of arches and vaults inspired by Antoni Gaudí, white walls and a tall tower. The shiny grey aspect of the original roof is a result of small pieces of glass being added to the mortar. The porch has a white ceramic handrail. On the eastern side, next to the main section of the building, there is a rotunda with two floors. The interior was designed by Joaquim Vancells and the furnishings in the dining room and the office still remain. Modernisme
''Modernisme'' (, Catalan for "modernism"), also known as Catalan modernism and Catalan art nouveau, is the historiographic denomination given to an art and literature movement associated with the search of a new entitlement of Catalan culture, one of the most predominant cultures within Spain. Nowadays, it is considered a movement based on the cultural revindication of a ''Catalan identity''. Its main form of expression was ''Modernista'' architecture, but it also encompassed many other arts, such as painting and sculpture, and especially the design and the decorative arts (cabinetmaking, carpentry, forged iron, ceramic tiles, ceramics, glass-making, silver and goldsmith work, etc.), which were particularly important, especially in their role as support to architecture. Terrassa
Terrassa (, es, Tarrasa) is a city in the east central region of Catalonia, Spain, in the province of Barcelona, ''comarca'' of Vallès Occidental, of which it is the co-capital along with Sabadell. The name ''Terrassa'' derives from Latin ''Terracia'', either from earlier ''Terracium castellum'' (“earthen castle”), or meaning "terrace", "area of flat land". Lluís Muncunill I Parellada
Lluís Muncunill i Parellada (Sant Vicenç de Fals, Fonollosa (Province of Barcelona); 25 February 1868 - Terrassa, Province of Barcelona, 25 April 1931), was a Catalan architect involved in the ''Modernisme català'' movement. After earning his degree in 1892, he worked in the city of Terrassa for 40 years, designing numerous buildings of various types, including public, religious, industrial and residential. Between 1892 and 1903, he served as the municipal architect. He was influenced by other modernist architects such as Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Antoni Gaudí
Antoni Gaudí i Cornet (; ; 25 June 1852 – 10 June 1926) was a Catalan architect from Spain known as the greatest exponent of Catalan Modernism. Gaudí's works have a highly individualized, ''sui generis'' style. Most are located in Barcelona, including his main work, the church of the Sagrada Família. Gaudí's work was influenced by his passions in life: architecture, nature, and religion. He considered every detail of his creations and integrated into his architecture such crafts as ceramics, stained glass, wrought ironwork forging and carpentry.
