Maryland Route 818
Maryland Route 818 (MD 818) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known as Main Street, the state highway runs between two intersections with U.S. Route 113 (US 113) on the north and south sides of Berlin in Worcester County. MD 818 is the original 1927 alignment of US 113 through Berlin. The state highway was designated shortly after US 113's bypass of Berlin was completed in the late 1950s. Route description MD 818 begins at an intersection with US 113 (Worcester Highway) on the south side of Berlin. Germantown Road continues as a county highway on the east side of the intersection. MD 818 heads north through the town of Berlin as a two-lane undivided road, passing Worcester Preparatory School, Buckingham Elementary School, and the historic home Burley Manor. Maryland has an extensive system of state highways, exclusive of the national Interstate and U.S. highway systems, that serves all 23 counties and the independent city of Baltimore, almost every incorporated city, town, and village, and most unincorporated places in the state. These highways are each designated Maryland Route X, where X is a number between 2 and 999. The highways are typically abbreviated MD X, although MD Route X and Route X are used less frequently. Because Maryland does not have a secondary route system or signed county route systems, all state highways are part of the main numerical system. Selbyville, Delaware
Selbyville is a town in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. Its population was 2,167 at the 2010 census, an increase of 31.7% over the previous decade. It is part of the Salisbury, Maryland-Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Selbyville was founded in 1778 and incorporated in 1902. It was originally known as Sandy Branch, due to its location on a branch of that name emanating in the Cypress Swamp at the head of the St. Martin's River. A grist mill and saw mill opened there in the late 18th century. In 1842, Sampson Selby began marking packages for delivery to his country store, Selby-Ville. By 1918, Selbyville was the major supplier of strawberries for the east coast, an industry that remained strong until the 1930s. Maryland Route 346
Maryland Route 346 (MD 346) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. The state highway runs from U.S. Route 50 Business (US 50 Business) in Salisbury east to US 50 in Berlin. MD 346 is the old alignment of US 50 between Salisbury and Berlin, connecting those cities with Parsonsburg, Pittsville, and Willards in eastern Wicomico County and Whaleyville in northern Worcester County. Much of what is now MD 346 was built as the original state road between Salisbury and Ocean City in the mid-1910s. The highway was designated US 213 in 1927 and changed to US 50 in 1949. Maryland And Delaware Railroad
The Maryland and Delaware Railroad Company is a Class III short-line railroad, formed in 1977 to operate several branch lines of the former Penn Central Railroad in both Maryland and Delaware, United States. These branches were omitted from the system plan for Conrail in 1976 and would have been discontinued without state subsidies. As an alternative to the higher cost of subsidizing Conrail as the operator of the branch lines, the Maryland and Delaware governments selected the Maryland and Delaware Railroad Company (MDDE) to serve as the designated operator. The railroad did not own any of the track it uses until 2000 when it acquired a line between Frankford, Delaware and Snow Hill, Maryland, from the Snow Hill Shippers Association.
