Mary A. Bomar
Mary Amelia Bomar (died August 28, 2022) was the 17th Director of the National Park Service of the United States. Early life and education Raised in Leicester, England, United Kingdom. Bomar became a U.S. citizen in 1977. Bomar died on August 28, 2022. Flags at all sites operated by the National Park Service were flown at half-staff in her honor on September 8, 2022. Career From 2003 to 2005, Bomar was superintendent of Independence National Historical Park, and previously superintendent at Oklahoma City National Memorial. Later she served as the Regional Director for the Park Service's Northeast Region. On September 5, 2006, Bomar was nominated by George W. Bush as the Director of the National Park Service, succeeding Fran P. Mainella. Jonathan B. Jarvis (born June 26, 1953) served as the 18th Director of the United States National Park Service, confirmed by the United States Senate on September 25, 2009, and serving until his retirement on January 3, 2017. Early life and education Jarvis graduated from Natural Bridge High School in Natural Bridge Station, Virginia, in 1971. He graduated from The College of William & Mary in 1975 with a degree in biology. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Independence National Historical Park is a federally protected historic district in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that preserves several sites associated with the American Revolution and the nation's founding history. Oklahoma City National Memorial
The Oklahoma City National Memorial is a memorial in the United States that honors the victims, survivors, rescuers, and all who were affected by the Oklahoma City bombing on April 19, 1995. The memorial is located in downtown Oklahoma City on the former site of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, which was destroyed in the 1995 bombing. This building was located on NW 5th Street between N. Robinson Avenue and N. Harvey Avenue. The national memorial was authorized on October 9, 1997, by President Bill Clinton's signing of the Oklahoma City National Memorial Act of 1997. It was administratively listed on the National Register of Historic Places the same day.
