Martin Åslund
John Allan Martin Åslund (born 10 November 1976) is a Swedish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He represented Djurgårdens IF, IFK Norrköping, AIK, Salernitana, Viborg FF, and Assyriska during a career that spanned between 1994 and 2009. He won four caps and scored two goals for the Sweden national team between 1998 and 2001. Club career Åslund joined Djurgårdens IF in 1993 and won the 1994 JSM för klubblag with the Djurgården under-18 squad. In 1995, he made his Allsvenskan debut for Djurgården in a 2–2 draw against Västra Frölunda and played for Djurgården until they were relegated in 1996. International career After having appeared for the Sweden U17, U19, and U21 teams, Åslund made his full international debut for the Sweden national team 14 October 1998 in a UEFA Euro 2000 qualifier against Bulgaria. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. A pundit is a person who offers mass media opinion or commentary on a particular subject area (most typically politics, the social sciences, technology or sport). 1978 FIFA World Cup
The 1978 FIFA World Cup was the 11th edition of the FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football world championship tournament among the men's senior national teams. It was held in Argentina between 1 and 25 June. The Cup was won by the host nation, Argentina, who defeated the Netherlands 3–1 in the final, after extra time. The final was held at River Plate's home stadium, Estadio Monumental, in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires. This win was the first World Cup title for Argentina, who became the fifth team (after Uruguay, Italy, England, and West Germany) to be both hosts and world champions and the third South American team to win a World Cup. John Sanny Åslund (born 29 August 1952) is a Swedish former football coach and former player. As a player, he represented Degerfors IF, AIK, Espanyol, and Werder Bremen during a career that spanned between 1971 and 1982. A full international between 1977 and 1979, he won five caps and scored two goals for the Sweden national team and was a part of their 1978 FIFA World Cup squad. As a coach, he most notably managed AIK and IFK Norrköping. Club career Åslund started his career in Sörby IK in 1963 and moved on to the professionals and played for Degerfors IF in 1971, after one season he moved to AIK Fotboll, yet again he only played one season before moving on to Spanish RCD Espanyol in 1974 where he spent one year before being transferred to Werder Bremen of Germany. Rade Stanislav Prica (born 30 June 1980) is a Swedish former professional footballer who played as a striker. He is the only player who has won league championships in the three Scandinavian countries – Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Lars Jesper Blomqvist (; born 5 February 1974) is a Swedish former professional footballer who played as a left midfielder. Most recently he was the playing assistant manager of Superettan side Hammarby from December 2009 to November 2010. He played at IFK Göteborg, where he won four straight Allsvenskan league titles between 1993 and 1996, and Manchester United, where he was part of the team that won the treble in 1999, consisting of the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League. He returned to Swedish football in 2003 with Djurgården, where he won his final Allsvenskan title, before initially retiring in 2005. An injury crisis prompted a playing return for Enköping in 2008. Edward Henrik Larsson (born 20 September 1971) is a Swedish professional football coach and former player, formerly an assistant manager of Barcelona. Playing as a striker, Larsson began his career with Högaborgs BK. In 1992, he moved to Helsingborg IF where in his first season his partnership up front with Mats Magnusson helped the club win promotion to Allsvenskan after 24 seasons in the lower tiers. UEFA Euro 2000 Qualifying
Qualifying for the UEFA Euro 2000 final tournament, took place throughout 1998 and 1999. Forty-nine teams were divided into nine groups. All teams played against each other, within their groups, on a home-and-away basis. The winner of each group and the best runner-up qualified automatically for the final tournament. The rest of the runners-up played an additional set of playoff matches amongst each other. Belgium and the Netherlands qualified automatically as co-hosts of the event.
