Martin Riley (basketball)
Martin James Riley (born May 8, 1955) is a Canadian retired basketball player, who was on the 1976 and 1980 Canadian Olympic teams. Early life Riley grew up in Winnipeg as one of five kids in a single parent household. He attended Sisler High School, where he played high school basketball for the Spartans, and led them to the 1973 provincial championship with an undefeated 38-0 record. Playing career University Riley played college basketball for the Manitoba Bisons at the University of Manitoba, where he was on the 1976 Canadian Championship team, as the Bisons defeated St. Mary's in the final, 82-69, after losing the final the previous year to Waterloo by one point, 80-79. Overall, the Bisons were in the Canadian Championships four of Riley's five seasons on the team. In their 1976 championship season, Riley won the Mike Moser Memorial Trophy as Canadian University basketball player of the year. Miles Macdonell Collegiate
Miles Macdonell Collegiate is a high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba that opened in September 1952 and is part of the River East Transcona School Division. It is one of the six schools in Manitoba that participate in the International Baccalaureate Program. The school offers classes in French Immersion geared towards university attendance in either official language. Miles Macdonell also offers several vocational tracks of study. Students may also complete a dual diploma, earning both an academic high school diploma and technical/vocational certification. Dakota Collegiate is a grade 9 to 12 public high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with an enrollment of 1235 students as of January 2020. Dakota offers Advanced Placement courses in limited subject areas, that include mathematics and the sciences. On May 3, 2014, the school celebrated its 50th anniversary. Manitoba Sports Hall Of Fame And Museum
The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is a Canadian museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba, dedicated to honoring the history and achievements of sports in Manitoba. The organization began in 1980, and then opened a museum in The Forks in 1993. After five years, the museum moved to The Bay store on Portage Avenue. Its present-day location is the Sport Manitoba building (145 Pacific Ave.), where it had its grand opening on October 27, 2012. Exhibits of Manitoba's sports teams and honoured athletes are displayed in the museum. The Hall of Fame inducts both individuals as well as teams.
