Marthe Flandrin
Marthe Flandrin (1904–1987) was a French artist and painter, specializing in frescos, as at Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët, but also producing designs for mosaics and tapestries, such as her 1962 ceiling mosaics for Notre-Dame de la Trinité Basilica in Blois. She was the daughter of the architect Joseph Flandrin (1857–1939) and the artist Jeanne Train (1864–1947). Fresco
Fresco (plural ''frescos'' or ''frescoes'') is a technique of mural painting executed upon freshly laid ("wet") lime plaster. Water is used as the vehicle for the dry-powder pigment to merge with the plaster, and with the setting of the plaster, the painting becomes an integral part of the wall. The word ''fresco'' ( it, affresco) is derived from the Italian adjective ''fresco'' meaning "fresh", and may thus be contrasted with fresco-secco or secco mural painting techniques, which are applied to dried plaster, to supplement painting in fresco. The fresco technique has been employed since antiquity and is closely associated with Italian Renaissance painting. The word ''fresco'' is commonly and inaccurately used in English to refer to any wall painting regardless of the plaster technology or binding medium. Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët
Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët () is a commune in the Manche department in Normandy in north-western France. On 1 January 2016, the former communes of Saint-Martin-de-Landelles and Virey were merged into Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët. It is approximately 50 miles (80 km) east of St. Malo and a similar distance northeast of Rennes. Notre-Dame De La Trinité Basilica
Notre-Dame de la Trinité Basilica (french: Basilique Notre-Dame de la Trinité) is a Roman Catholic basilica church located in Blois, in the Loir-et-Cher department of France. It is dedicated to the Our Lady of the Trinity. History Devotion to Our Lady of the Trinity began in the early 20th century thanks to father Jean-Baptiste, a Capuchin brother in the convent in Blois. He devoted his whole life to preaching, expanding use of the triple Ave Maria prayer and publishing tracts in several languages on the topic. He was succeeded by father Clovis, who studied and got to know the theological basis for Marian devotion to the triple Ave Maria, which found its expression in the title 'Our Lady of the Trinity'. In 1921 pope Benedict XV approved the Archconfraternity of the Triple Ave Maria, intended to spread this devotion. Paul Flandrin
Paul Jean Flandrin (28 May 1811, Lyon - 8 March 1902, Paris) was a French painter. He was the younger brother of the painters Auguste Flandrin and Jean-Hippolyte Flandrin. Life Flandrin took painting classes from 1926 to 1931 at Jean-Pierre Laurens and Pierre-Henri Ducos de La Haille from École des beaux-arts de Paris, a renowned fine arts school in France. Flandrin first trained with Antoine Duclaux (a landscape painter and animal painter from Lyon) and Jean-François Legendre-Héral (a sculptor), before joining the École des beaux-arts de Lyon, then the École des beaux-arts de Paris. He then joined the studio of Dominique Ingres. He competed for the prix de Rome twice and was unsuccessful both times, but still managed to get to Rome at his own expense, joining his brother Hippolyte, who had already won the prize.
