Martha Clokie
Martha Rebecca Jane Clokie is a Professor of Microbiology at the University of Leicester. Her research investigates the identification and development of bacteriophages that kill pathogens in an effort to develop new antimicrobials. Education Clokie studied biology at the University of Dundee. She graduated in 1996 and moved to Edinburgh, where she started a postgraduate degree in biodiversity. She earned a master's degree at the University of Edinburgh in 1997 and moved to Leicester. Clokie earned her doctoral degree in molecular ecology at the University of Leicester in 2001 for research on the evolution of three genera of plants: ''Eucryphia'', ''Griselinia'' and ''Coriaria''. Research and career After her PhD, Clokie was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Warwick and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Eucryphia
''Eucryphia'' is a small genus of trees and large shrubs native to the south temperate regions of South America and coastal eastern Australia, mainly Tasmania. Sometimes placed in a family of their own, the Eucryphiaceae, more recent classifications place them in the Cunoniaceae. There are seven species, two in South America and five in Australia, and several named hybrids. Description They are mostly evergreen though one species (''E. glutinosa'') is usually deciduous. Drug resistance is the reduction in effectiveness of a medication such as an antimicrobial or an antineoplastic in treating a disease or condition. The term is used in the context of resistance that pathogens or cancers have "acquired", that is, resistance has evolved. Antimicrobial resistance and antineoplastic resistance challenge clinical care and drive research. When an organism is resistant to more than one drug, it is said to be multidrug-resistant. Flacherie
Flacherie (literally: "flaccidness") is a disease of silkworms, caused by silkworms eating infected or contaminated mulberry leaves. Flacherie infected silkworms look weak and can die from this disease. Silkworm larvae that are about to die from Flacherie are a dark brown. There are two kinds of flacherie: essentially, infectious (viral) flacherie and noninfectious (''touffée'') flacherie. Both are technically a lethal diarrhea. Touffée flacherie is caused by heat waves. Muga Silk
Muga silk is a variety of wild silk geographically tagged to the state of Assam in India. The silk is known for its extreme durability and has a natural yellowish-golden tint with a shimmering, glossy texture. It was previously reserved for the use of royalty. In the Brahmaputra Valley, the larvae of the Assam silkmoth feed on aromatic ''Som'' ('' Machilus bombycina'') and ''Sualu'' ('' Litsea polyantha'') leaves. Muga silk can be dyed after bleaching. Antheraea Assamensis
''Antheraea assamensis'', known as the muga silkworm as a larva and Assam silk moth as an adult, is a moth of the family Saturniidae. The species was first described by Johann Wilhelm Helfer in 1837. It is found in Assam in northeast India where 99% of its production occurs. The larva feed on ''Cinnamomum'', ''Laurus'', ''Litsea'', ''Carpinus'', ''Persea'', ''Magnolia'', ''Michelia'', ''Quercus'', ''Sarcostemma'' and ''Symplocos''.
