Mark S. Boensel
Mark Stephen Boensel (born 26 December 1955) is a former rear admiral in the United States Navy. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, with the class of 1978, he became a naval flight officer, and served on aircraft carriers, including operational deployment in Operation Desert Shield in 1990. He commanded Navy Region Southeast from December 2005 to October 2007, and Navy Region Mid-Atlantic from November 2007 until September 2011. He officially retired from the Navy on 1 January 2012 and since then has pursued a business career in Jacksonville, Florida. Navy career Mark Stephen Boensel was born on 26 December 1955. Sea Control Squadron 37 or VS-37 also known as the "Sawbucks" was an Anti Submarine Warfare squadron that was decommissioned in 1995 along with CVW-15. During its active history, it flew during the Korean and Vietnam Wars as well as operating the last S-2 Trackers inservice with the US Navy in 1975. History Pre VS-37 (1946–1953) VS-37 was established as Attack Reverse Squadron VA-76E in 1946 at NAS Oakland, California (Now Oakland International Airport). The squadron then changed to VC-871 (Composite Squadron) before being changed to Anti Submarine Warfare Squadron 871 or "VS-871". While based at NAS Los Alamitos, the squadron was called to active duty to take part in the Korean War. Carrier Air Wing Ten (CVW-10) were two separate carrier air wings of the United States Navy that existed during the Cold War. The first CVW-10 was originally known as CVG-10 and was established in 1950 before being disestablished in November 1969. The second and much shorter lived one was established in 1986 but due to budgets after one workups cruise, it was disestablished in 1988 along with all of its squadrons. VS-41, Sea Control Squadron 41 was a training squadron of the United States Navy for crews of anti-submarine aircraft and was established on 30 June 1960 as an "anti-submarine squadron". The squadron was nicknamed ''Shamrocks'' and based at the Naval Air Station North Island, California (USA). Background VS-41 was originally activated in 1960 to train the crews of Grumman S-2 ''Tracker'' anti-submarine aircraft for the United States Navy. Lockheed S-3 Viking
The Lockheed S-3 Viking is a four-crew, twin-engine turbofan-powered jet aircraft designed and produced by the American aerospace manufacturer Lockheed Corporation. Because of its characteristic sound, it was nicknamed the "War Hoover" after the vacuum cleaner brand. The S-3 was developed in response to the VSX program conducted by the U.S. Navy (USN) to procure a successor anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft to the Grumman S-2 Tracker.
