Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club
The Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club is located in the northwestern area of Winnipeg, in the community of St. James. The curling club was started up in 1929 and was nicknamed the 'root cellar', it had only 2 sheets of ice at the time.http://www.curlamcc.ca Assiniboine Memorial CC Site/ The AMCC moved to their current site, at Vimy and Hamilton, in 1962. This new location was built with 4 sheets and then expanded to 8, as it has today. A small fire destroyed part of the clubrooms and arena in 1972, most of the original structure remained and was rebuilt. In 1992 the AMCC addressed the problem of the shifting Winnipeg 'gumbo' under the ice sheets. The ice was dug out 6 feet beneath the curling rink, filled with sand, and covered with styrofoam to prevent shifting of the ice. Chris Neufeld
Christopher D. Neufeld (born April 21, 1957 in Steinbach, Manitoba) is a Canadian curler from Steinbach, Manitoba. He played second for Vic Peters in the senior division. Neufeld was raised in Steinbach and attended the Steinbach Regional Secondary School where he met and competed at the high school level with Peters. After moving to Winnipeg and going pro, Neufeld and Peters curled their entire careers together, and during that time won 3 Provincial Championships, 1 National Championship in 1992 and also won the Manitoba Senior Men's Championships in 2008. Neufeld's sons Denni Neufeld curled with Jason Gunnlaugson and B.J. Neufeld currently curls on the Kevin Koe rink. Personal life Neufeld is married and has three children. Vic Peters
Victor Alvin "Vic" Peters (March 24, 1955 – March 27, 2016) was a Canadian curler who was a three-time Manitoba curling champion, and one-time national champion as winner of the 1992 Labatt Brier. Peters was once considered a member of Manitoba's "Big Three", which consisted of himself, Kerry Burtnyk and Jeff Stoughton. These teams dominated curling in Canada and the world during the 1990s, winning four Labatt Briers and two world championships. Peters was noted for his tuck delivery alongside Burtnyk and Stoughton. Career Peters won his first and only national championship on his first visit to the Brier in 1992. This earned him a trip to the World Curling Championships in Germany where his team finished third. Peters team won the national championship under the traditional curling rules, but in Europe they played under the 4-rock free guard zone rule. Stephen "Steve" Gould (born October 6, 1972 in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a Canadians, Canadian retired curling, curler from Rural Municipality of Headingley, Headingley, Manitoba. As a lead for Jeff Stoughton, he won 2 World Championships and 3 Briers. He is currently the coach of the Brent Pierce Glossary_of_curling#Rink, rink. Career Gould played lead for Stoughton in two stints from 1995–97 and 2003 to March 2012. Between those times he also played lead for Vic Peters, Dale Duguid, Barry Fry (curler), Barry Fry and also an alternate stint for Stoughton in 1999. With Stoughton, he won three the Brier, Briers (1996, 1999, and 2011) a World Curling Championship in both 1996 and 2011, as well as a silver medal in 1999. He has also won six provincial championships with Stoughton.
