Mark Henry Hansen
Mark Henry Hansen (born 1964) is an American statistician, professor at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and Director of the David and Helen Gurley Brown Institute for Media Innovation. His special interest is the intersection of data, art and technology. He adopts an interdisciplinary approach to data science, drawing on various branches of applied mathematics, information theory and new media arts. Within the field of journalism, Hansen has promoted coding literacy for journalists. Early life Hansen was born in 1964 in Petaluma, California. He graduated from Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, California. Hansen received a Bachelor of Science degree in applied mathematics from the University of California, Davis in 1987. Ben Rubin (born 1964) is a media artist and designer based in New York City. He is best known for his data-driven media installations and public artworks, including '' Listening Post'' and ''Moveable Type'', both created in collaboration with statistician and journalism professor Mark Hansen. Since 2015, Rubin has served as the director of the Center for Data Arts at The New School, where he is an associate professor of design. Jer Thorp (born 1974/5) is a Canadian data artist from Vancouver, British Columbia. Before becoming a data artist, he was originally trained as a geneticist. He holds an adjunct faculty position at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in the Interactive Telecommunications Program.
