Mark Godfrey (curator)
Mark Benjamin Godfrey is a British art historian, critic, and curator. He was a curator at Tate Modern from 2007 to 2021. Early life and education Godfrey was born in the Hampstead Garden Suburb of London. He is Jewish; his father was from Leeds and his mother was from South Africa. Godfrey pursued art curation from a young age. His father regularly took him to art galleries, while his mother taught him a tradition of collecting Judaica. He joined the Habonim Dror youth movement and went to Israel in 1992 to work for Habonim. Godfrey earned his PhD in art history at University College London. His dissertation, titled ''Abstraction and the Holocaust'', analysed the works of American artists and architects to "see how they addressed the Holocaust in an abstract way, without using direct images." Gerhard Richter
Gerhard Richter (; born 9 February 1932) is a German visual artist. Richter has produced abstract as well as photorealistic paintings, and also photographs and glass pieces. He is widely regarded as one of the most important contemporary German artists and several of his works have set record prices at auction. Personal life Childhood and education Richter was born in Hospital Dresden-Neustadt in Dresden, Saxony, and grew up in Reichenau (now Bogatynia, Poland), and in Waltersdorf (Zittauer Gebirge), in the Upper Lusatian countryside, where his father worked as a village teacher. Gerhard's mother, Hildegard Schönfelder, gave birth to him at the age of 25. Hildegard's father, Ernst Alfred Schönfelder, at one time was considered a gifted pianist. Zoé Whitley
Zoé Whitley (born 30 December 1979) is an American art historian and curator who has been director of Chisenhale Gallery since 2020. Based in London, she has held curatorial positions at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Tate galleries, and the Hayward Gallery. At the Tate galleries, Whitley co-curated the 2017 exhibition '' Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power'', which was described by ''ARTnews'' as one of the most important art exhibitions of the 2010s. 57th Venice Biennale
The 57th Venice Biennale was an international contemporary art exhibition held between May and November 2017. The Venice Biennale takes place biennially in Venice, Italy. Artistic director Christine Macel, the chief curator at the Centre Pompidou, curated its central exhibition, "Viva Arte Viva", as a series of interconnected pavilions designed to reflect art's capacity for expanding humanism. The curator also organized a project, "Unpacking My Library", based on a Walter Benjamin essay, to list artists' favorite books. Macel was the first French director since 1995 and the fourth woman to direct the Biennale. Anne Imhof (born 1978 in Giessen, Germany) is a German visual artist, choreographer, and performance artist who lives and works between Frankfurt and Paris. She is best known for her endurance art, although she cites painting as central to her practice. Life Imhof was born in Giessen and grew up in Fulda. She received private drawing lessons from a teacher at a boarding school in England. She moved to Frankfurt, living in a commune and making music in her twenties. Christopher Williams (born 1956) is an American conceptual artist and fine-art photographer. He lives in Cologne and works in Düsseldorf. Early life and education Williams was born in 1956 in Los Angeles, California. In the 1970s and early 1980s, he studied at the California Institute of the Arts where he received his B.F.A. and M.F.A. under the first generation of West Coast conceptual artists.
