Marist Football Club, formerly known as Marist Fire Football Club, is a Solomon Islands football club based in Honiara. They were winners of the 2006/2007 Solomon Islands National Club Championship. They qualified for the Oceania Club Championship 2006 hosted in Auckland, New Zealand which took place in May 2006. Marist F.C. were eliminated in the opening group stage of the tournament, losing 10–1 in their opening match to eventual finalists, AS Pirae of Tahiti, before losing another and winning one. Lawson Tama Stadium
Lawson Tama Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Honiara, Solomon Islands. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium is unique as the stand is built into the hillside so there is no official capacity but no more than 20,000 would fit the surrounding grassland. The stadium hosted the 2012 OFC Nations Cup and inaugural Mini South Pacific Games in July 1981. History Following the establishment of the British Solomon Islands Amateur Sports Association following a meeting in August 1961, the government allocated an area near the town's hospital. The ground was initially known as the Town Sports Ground, and preparation work was completed in early 1964. In 1965 plans were made to build a pavilion and other facilities. As Honiara expanded, the ground became more central. It was suggested that the ground should be renamed, with the "Hospital Ground" being one suggestion. Leon Kofana is a Solomon Islands footballer who currently plays for Telekom S-League club Henderson Eels and the Solomon Islands national team. Club career As a youth, Kofana played for his school club at White River Community High School. In 2017 the team advanced to the semi-final of the school league before being eliminated by Numbu Christian High School. The following year the team finished third in the league with Kofana anchoring the defense in the bronze final match. In 2019 he and compatriot Raphael Lea'i received a scholarship to attend Scots College in New Zealand and be part of Wellington Phoenix FC's youth setup. John Aeta (born 2 September 2000) is a Solomon Islands footballer who plays as a defender for Marist. He made his debut for the national team on June 25, 2017, in a 1–1 draw against Fiji. International U17's Aeta first international experience was with the Solomon Islands national under-17 football team. With the team he played at the 2017 OFC U-17 Championship where he served as the captain of the team. After a victory, a draw and a loss they managed to reach the semi-final. However, they lost the semi-final by three goals to two against New Caledonia. This meant that not the Solomon Islands but New Caledonia qualified for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup for the first time.
