Marisol Prado
Rossana Marisol Prado Villegas (b. Santiago, April 5, 1968), is a Chilean physician, psychiatrist and academic who became the first woman to hold the post of president of the University of Chile Student Federation (abbr. FECH) which was founded in 1906; she was the first and only woman until Camila Vallejo assumed the post in August 2010, followed by Scarlett Mac-Ginty in November 2011. Early life and education Prado studied medicine at the University of Chile. She joined the Communist Youth of Chile in 1995. She served as communication and General Secretary of the FECH during the term of Rodrigo Roco and was elected as FECH president with approximately 40% of the votes in 1997. During her tenure and mandate as a principal student leader, Chile experienced one of the most important mass student mobilizations of the 1990s. The University of Chile Student Federation (''Federación de Estudiantes de la Universidad de Chile'' bbr. FECh is an organization that represents all the students enrolled in undergraduate and post-graduate courses at the University of Chile. The student organizations of the different undergraduate schools are also federated within the FECh. The Independent Democratic Union (''Unión Demócrata Independiente'', UDI) is a conservative and right-wing political party in Chile, founded in 1983. Its founder was the lawyer, politician and law professor Jaime Guzmán, a civilian allied with Augusto Pinochet. Guzmán was a senator from 1990 until his murder by communist guerrillas on April 1, 1991. Its ideological origins date back to Guzmán's Guildist Movement, born out of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in 1966, espousing the independence and depoliticization of intermediate bodies of civil society. An academy (Attic Greek: Ἀκαδήμεια; Koine Greek Ἀκαδημία) is an institution of secondary or tertiary higher learning (and generally also research or honorary membership). The name traces back to Plato's school of philosophy, founded approximately 385 BC at Akademia, a sanctuary of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and skill, north of Athens, Greece. The Humanist Party ( es, Partido Humanista) is a universal humanist, progressive, and left-wing political party in Chile, founded in 1984. The party is a member of the Humanist International. In December 1990, Laura Rodríguez became the first elected representative of any Humanist Party in the world after winning a seat as part of the ''Concertación'' coalition, after Augusto Pinochet handed over power. At the 2001 legislative elections, the party won 1.1% of the vote but no seats. Tomás Hirsch
Tomás René Hirsch Goldschmidt (born 19 July 1956) is a leftist Chilean politician and businessman. He was the Together We Can Do More pact candidate for the 2005 Chilean presidential election, winning 5.4% of the vote. Biography Hirsch was born in Santiago, Chile, to Jewish-German parents. His mother, Lysa Goldschmidt, arrived in Chile before World War II, while his father, Jorge Hirsch, arrived in the country escaping from German Nazi concentration camps. During his youth, Hirsch became interested in Silo, an Argentinian writer and leader of a movement that inspired the founders of the Humanist Party. In 1974 Hirsch began studying Industrial Civil Engineering at the University of Chile, but dropped out in 1978. Later he began working on his brother's photo company. Hirsch is married to Juanita Vergara and has two children.
