Mario Giordano (writer)
Mario Giordano (born 30 May 1963) is a German writer. His novel ''Black Box'' (1999), which is based on a true occurrence ( Stanford prison experiment) was adapted to a film under the name '' Das Experiment'' directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel. The film was acclaimed and Giordano received for it among other prizes the Bavarian Film Award for Best Screenplay. Stanford Prison Experiment
The Stanford prison experiment (SPE) was a psychological experiment conducted in the summer of 1971. It was a two-week simulation of a prison environment that examined the effects of situational variables on participants' reactions and behaviors. Stanford University psychology professor Philip Zimbardo led the research team who administered the study. Participants were recruited from the local community with an ad in the newspapers offering $15 per day to male students who wanted to participate in a "psychological study of prison life." Volunteers were chosen after assessments of psychological stability, and then randomly assigned to being prisoners or prison guards. Critics have questioned the validity of these methods. Those volunteers selected to be "guards" were given uniforms specifically to de-individuate them, and instructed to prevent prisoners from escaping. ''Das Experiment'' (English: ''The Experiment'') is a 2001 German drama thriller film directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel. It is based on Mario Giordano's novel ''Black Box'' and deals with a social experiment which resembles Philip Zimbardo's Stanford prison experiment of 1971. Plot While reading a newspaper advertisement, taxi driver Tarek Fahd discovers an invitation to participate in an experiment, in which 4,000 German marks are offered to the participants of a simulation of a prison situation. The experiment is led by Professor Klaus Thon and his assistant, Dr. Jutta Grimm. He decides to join in. Tarek participates as a journalist while wearing a pair of glasses with a built-in mini-camera. After a car accident he suffers shortly before the experiment, Tarek meets a woman called Dora. Oliver Hirschbiegel
Oliver Hirschbiegel (born 29 December 1957) is a German film director. His works include ''Das Experiment'' and the Oscar-nominated '' Downfall''. Life and career Hirschbiegel was born in Hamburg, Germany. A Waldorf graduate, Hirschbiegel studied painting and graphic arts, later film, at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts. In 1986, he directed his first film, the made-for-TV movie ''Das Go! Projekt'', the script for which he had written himself. He became a successful TV director, directing numerous episodes of the ''Tatort'' and ''Kommissar Rex'' series. His first theatrical release was the well-received movie ''Das Experiment''. In 2004, he attracted world-wide attention with the film ''Der Untergang'' (released in English-speaking countries as '' Downfall''), produced by Bernd Eichinger. Bavarian Film Award
The Bavarian Film Awards (german: Bayerischer Filmpreis) have been awarded annually since 1979 by the state government of Bavaria in Germany for “exceptional achievement in German filmmaking.” Along with the German Film Awards, these are the most highly regarded awards for filmmaking achievement in Germany. The Bavarian Film Awards Gala takes place in mid-January at the Cuvilliés Theatre in Munich to honour films released in the previous year, and is one of the most glamorous highlights in the German film calendar. Andreas Schlüter
Andreas Schlüter (1659 – c. June 1714) was a German baroque sculptor and architect, active in the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the Russian Tsardom. Biography Andreas Schlüter was born probably in Hamburg. His early life is obscure as at least three different persons of that name are documented. The records of St. Michaelis Church, Hamburg show that an Andreas Schlüter, son of sculptor Gerhart Schlüter, had been baptized there on 22 May 1664. Documents from Danzig/Gdańsk ( Royal Prussia) reported that an Andreas Schlüter ''(senior)'' had worked 1640–1652 in Danzig's Jopengasse lane (today's ulica Piwna). ''Auntie Poldi and the Sicilian Lions'' is the first of four books written by Mario Giordano (writer), Mario Giordano in the Auntie Poldi Adventure Series. It was published in German in 2014 and translated into English by John Brownjohn in 2018. It was the first of Giordano's novels to be translated into English. Set in Sicily, the topics of the Sicilian Mafia and Law enforcement in Italy, Italian police forces are presented.
