Daniel Mariga
Daniel Mariga (c. 1976–2006) was a Zimbabwean sculptor. The third son of Joram Mariga, Mariga began sculpting while still at school. He began by helping his father finish his work. He was trained in the art of the Shona people, which informed his style. He began sculpting full-time after completing school; in 1995 he showed with other members of his family at the Chapungu Sculpture Park, where he became an artist in residence in 1998. Joram Mariga
Joram Mariga has been called (and believed himself to be) the “Father of Zimbabwean Sculpture” because of his influence on the local artistic community starting in the 1950s and continuing until his death in 2000. The sculptural movement of which he was part is usually referred to as “Shona sculpture”, although some of its recognised members are not ethnically Shona. Joram Mariga died in December 2000 soon after arrival at Bonda Mission Hospital, following a car accident. Early life and education Born near Chinhoyi, (formerly called Sinoia) in what in 1927 was Southern Rhodesia, Joram Mariga was ethnically Shona and spoke Zezuru, a local dialect. He was the son of a sangoma, and both of his parents were artistic. His father and elder brothers (Copper and Douglas) were expert woodcarvers, while his mother made pottery. McDonald Mariga
McDonald Mariga Wanyama (; born 4 April 1987) is a Kenyan retired footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. Mariga made history as the first Kenyan footballer to play in the UEFA Champions League, for Internazionale on 16 March 2010. In 2019 he joined politics to vie for Kibera parliamentary seat after the death of Ken Okoth. Club career Early career Mariga started his playing career at Ulinzi Stars before moving first to Tusker FC and then to Kenya Pipeline while still at school. Mariga was a member of the Kamukunji High School 'Golden Boys', which also included Kenyan striker Dennis Oliech (Auxerre, France), who won two consecutive National Championships in 2002 and 2003. Dr. Erick Mariga was born on 29 December 1988 in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2012, he graduated from the University of the Western Cape in Belleville, South Africa, with a M.A. in Development Studies. In 2021, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) from the same university. He lists specializations in "Peace, Conflict Resolution and Fragility Mitigation".
