The Marietta City School District is the school district which operates the public schools in Marietta, Georgia, United States. It is the only city government in Cobb County which operates its schools separately from the Cobb County School District. Founded in 1892, classes began that year on Labor Day at four schools. Marietta, Georgia
Marietta is a city in and the county seat of Cobb County, Georgia, United States. At the 2020 census, the city had a population of 60,972. The 2019 estimate was 60,867, making it one of Atlanta's largest suburbs. Marietta is the fourth largest of the principal cities by population of the Atlanta metropolitan area. History Etymology The origin of the name is uncertain. It is believed that the city was named for Mary Cobb, the wife of the U.S. Senator and Superior Court judge Thomas Willis Cobb. The county is named for Cobb. Early settlers Homes were built by early settlers near the Cherokee town of Big Shanty (now Kennesaw) before 1824. The first plot was laid out in 1833. Marietta High School is a public high school in Marietta, Georgia, United States, part of the Marietta City School District as the only high school inside the city limits. The school's mascot is the Blue Devil. History In 1886, ''The Macon Telegraph'' announced that all but $700 of the $7,000 needed to build Marietta High School had been raised. Marietta High School opened in the fall of 1892. In 1896, the school's fourth graduation ceremony took place. In 1900, the graduating class had twelve members. The school had six locations, including Kennesaw Avenue, Waterman Street, Lemon Street, and Haynes Street. Cobb County School District
The Cobb County School District (CCSD) is the county government agency which operates public schools in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. The school district includes all of Cobb County except for the Marietta City Schools, though a number of schools in unincorporated parts of the county have Marietta addresses. It is the second-largest school system in Georgia (behind only Gwinnett County Public Schools) and among the largest in the United States. Cobb County is a county in the U.S. state of Georgia, located in the Atlanta metropolitan area in the north central portion of the state. As of 2020 Census, the population was 766,149.
