Marietta High School is a public high school in Marietta, Georgia, United States, part of the Marietta City School District as the only high school inside the city limits. The school's mascot is the Blue Devil. History In 1886, ''The Macon Telegraph'' announced that all but $700 of the $7,000 needed to build Marietta High School had been raised. Marietta High School opened in the fall of 1892. In 1896, the school's fourth graduation ceremony took place. In 1900, the graduating class had twelve members. The school had six locations, including Kennesaw Avenue, Waterman Street, Lemon Street, and Haynes Street. Marietta is a city in and the county seat of Cobb County, Georgia, United States. At the 2020 census, the city had a population of 60,972. The 2019 estimate was 60,867, making it one of Atlanta's largest suburbs. Marietta is the fourth largest of the principal cities by population of the Atlanta metropolitan area. History Etymology The origin of the name is uncertain. It is believed that the city was named for Mary Cobb, the wife of the U.S. Senator and Superior Court judge Thomas Willis Cobb. Murray Attaway (born November 30, 1957) is an American musician, best known as the lead singer and guitarist for the Marietta, Georgia alternative jangle pop rock band Guadalcanal Diary. Scott Sisson
Scott O'Neal Sisson (born July 21, 1971) is a former American football placekicker in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the New England Patriots (1993) and the Minnesota Vikings (1996). He played collegiately for the Georgia Tech football, including the 1990 national championship team and an All-America selection in 1992. He was inducted into the Georgia Tech Hall of Fame in 2003. Traye Simmons (born January 18, 1987) is a former American football cornerback. He attended Minnesota, as a member of the 2010 graduating class. Shortly after the draft ended, Simmons joined the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent. Rex Robinson (born March 17, 1959) is a placekicker that played for the Marietta Blue Devils, University of Georgia Bulldogs of the Southeastern Conference and the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). Originally from Marietta, Georgia, Robinson grew up watching the NFL’s latest curiosities, soccer style kickers, such as Jan Stenerud, Garo Yepremian, and Pete and Charlie Gogalak on television each Sunday and then tried to imitate what he saw them doing. Azeez O. Ojulari (born June 16, 2000) is an American football outside linebacker and defensive end for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Georgia and was drafted by the Giants in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Cedric Henderson (October 3, 1965 – April 5, 2023) was an American professional basketball player who briefly played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Career Henderson went to school in Lithia Springs, Georgia, then played basketball in Jefferson City, Tennessee, before transferring to Marietta High School. In 1984, he ranked among the nation's top high school basketball prospects.
