The unicameral National Assembly (''Assemblée nationale'') is Niger's legislative body. The National Assembly may propose laws and is required to approve all legislation. History The National Assembly was established through reforms of the Colony of Niger's Constituent Council during the French colonial period. It operated from 1958, through independence in 1960, until the 1974 Nigerien coup d'état. During the course of military rule (1974–1991) a consultative body (the ''High Council of the Republic of Niger'') was reformed to become analogous to a National Assembly. Maradi Region
The Region of Maradi is one of seven Region of Niger. It is located in south-central Niger, east of the Region of Tahoua, west of Zinder, and north of the Nigerian city of Katsina. The administrative centre is at Maradi. The population of the Region is predominantly Hausa. History In 2021, a large gold mine collapse in the region killed 18 miners. The National Movement for the Development of Society (french: Mouvement National pour la Société du Développement, MNSD-Nassara) is a political party in Niger. Founded under the military government of the 1974–1990 period, it was the ruling party of Niger from 1989 to 1993 and again from 1999 until 2010, when a coup on 18 February 2010, by a military junta called the Supreme Council for the Restoration of Democracy (CSRD) ousted the president, Mamadou Tandja. 1989 Nigerien General Election
General elections were held in Niger on 12 December 1989 to elect a President and National Assembly. They were the first elections since 1970, and followed the approval of a new constitution in a referendum in September, which had made the country a one-party state with the National Movement for the Development of Society as the sole legal party. As a result, its leader, the incumbent president Ali Saibou, was elected unopposed, and the party won all 93 seats in the Assembly. Voter turnout was 95.1%.
