Marie Costine
Marie Costine (born in Cloyne, County Cork, Ireland) is a former camogie player. Overview Costine was winner of All Ireland medals in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973 (as captain) and 1978. She was selected on the camogie Team of the century in 2004. Early life Costine was born in 1947 in Cloyne. She started playing camogie in 1964 with the Oil Refinery Club. She then joined the Youghal team in 1966 and stayed there until 1971 when Cloyne started their own club. Career Costine played club camogie with both Killeagh and Imokilly, winning ten Cork County Championships and an All Ireland Club Championship in 1980, when Killeagh defeated Buffers Alley. She was the first Cloyne women to bring an All Ireland to Cloyne, which until then was known as the home of Christy Ring. She captained the team in 1973 and contributed significantly to the success of a Cork team that won four championships in a row and added another All Ireland in 1978. Killeagh GAA
Killeagh GAA club is a hurling and Gaelic football club located in the small village of Killeagh in east County Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated with the East Cork division of Imokilly and the Cork county board. Notable players The inter-county hurling player Joe Deane, who played for Cork as a left full forward, was born in Killeagh. Mark Landers, who captained Cork to an All Ireland title in 1999, was also part of the Killeagh team that won the County Intermediate title in 2001. The All-Ireland Club Camogie Championship is a competition for club teams in the Irish women’s field sport of camogie. It is contested by the senior club champions of the leading counties and organised by An Cumann Camógaíochta. Trophy The trophy for the competition was donated by Bill Carroll, whose daughter, Ann was one of the outstanding players of the first decade of the competition, winning Championships with both St Patrick’s, Glengoole and St Paul’s, Kilkenny. History The competition was established in 1964, six years before the equivalent competitions in hurling and Gaelic football. Nicholas Christopher Michael Ring (30 October 1920 – 2 March 1979) was an Irish hurling, hurler whose National Hurling League, league and All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, championship career at senior level with the Cork county hurling team, Cork county team spanned twenty-four years from 1939 to 1963. Camogie All Stars
The Camogie All Star Awards are awarded each November to 15 players who have made outstanding contributions to the Irish stick and ball team sport of camogie in the 15 traditional positions on the field: goalkeeper, three full backs, three half-backs, two midfields, three half-forwards and three full-forwards. They were awarded for the first time in 2003 as an independent initiative sponsored by a hotel group and accorded official status by the Camogie Association in 2004. In 2004 a team of the century was also chosen to commemorate the centenary of the sport. O'Neill's are the present title sponsors of the awards. Imokilly GAA
Imokilly GAA is a Gaelic football and Hurling division in the east of Cork, Ireland. The division includes towns such as Midleton, Cobh, and Youghal. It is one of eight divisions of Cork County Board. It organizes competitions for the clubs within the division, from Under 12 up to the adult level. The winners of these competitions compete against other divisional champions to determine which club is the county champion. In addition, the division selects football and hurling teams from the adult teams playing at junior level or county intermediate level, and these then compete for the Cork Senior Football Championship and Cork Senior Hurling Championship. The All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship is a competition for inter-county teams in the women's field sport of game of camogie played in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Camogie Association and are played during the summer months with the All-Ireland Camogie Final being played on the second Sunday in September in Croke Park, Dublin. The prize for the winning team is the O'Duffy Cup. The men's equivalent tournament is the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Participants The county is a geographical region in Ireland, and each county organises its own camogie affairs.
