Maria De Lourdes Sá Teixeira
Maria de Lourdes Braga de Sá Teixeira (19 October 1907 - 19 July 1984) was a Portuguese aviator, being the first woman to obtain a pilot’s licence in Portugal, at the age of twenty-one. Born into an upper-middle-class family, and known by family and friends as “Milú”, Sá Teixeira was the daughter of Afonso Henriques Botelho de Sá Teixeira, a medical colonel. He was vehemently opposed to his daughter’s wish to fly a plane. Faced with the weakening of his daughter's health due to his opposition, he changed his mind and allowed her to continue with her plans and from that moment gave her his full support. Her instructor was Francisco Craveiro Lopes who went on to become the 12th President of the Portuguese Republic between 1951 and 1958. The Portuguese people () are a Romance nation and ethnic group indigenous to Portugal who share a common culture, ancestry and language. The de Havilland Aircraft Company Limited () was a British aviation manufacturer established in late 1920 by Geoffrey de Havilland at Stag Lane Aerodrome Edgware on the outskirts of north London. Adelaide Cabete Adelaide Cabete (25 January 1867, Elvas – 14 September 1935), was a Portuguese feminist and republican. In 1909, with Ana de Castro Osorio she created the Republican League of Portuguese Women. She was the founder of the Portuguese women's organization, ''Conselho Nacional das Mulheres Portuguesas'', and served as its president from 1914 to 1935. Francisco Higino Craveiro Lopes (; 12 April 1894 – 2 September 1964) was a Portuguese Air Force officer and politician who served as the 12th president of Portugal from 1951 to 1958.
