Margerie Bonner
Margerie Bonner (February 17, 1905 – September 28, 1988) was an American actress, scriptwriter, and novelist. She is best known as the wife of Malcolm Lowry and for her support of the author while he wrote his best known novel, ''Under the Volcano'', considered one of the finest novels of the 20th century. Biography Acting career The younger sister of silent screen star Priscilla Bonner, she also appeared in several films (spelling her first name Marjorie), among them Cecil B. DeMille's '' The King of Kings'' (1927), '' The Sign of the Cross'' (1932), and the talkie '' Cleopatra'' (1934). By the late 1930s her movie career was over and she was working as a personal assistant to the actress Penny Singleton. Priscilla Bonner (February 17, 1899 – February 21, 1996) was an American silent film actress who specialized in portraying virginal, innocent heroines. Early years Priscilla Bonner was born in Washington, D.C. on February 17, 1899. Her father, John S. Bonner, worked for Page Fence and served as an officer in Company B of the local National Guard Unit. At the start of World War I the company was activated for service, and her father started his career as an Army officer. The family moved often, and she spent much of her life in different places. She often play acted to amuse herself, playing all the parts and shifting the sets. Gordon Bowker (writer)
Gordon Bowker (1934 – 14 January 2019) was an English journalist and academic who wrote biographies of Malcolm Lowry, Lawrence Durrell, George Orwell and James Joyce. Life and works Bowker grew up in a Birmingham devastated by bombing during the Second World War, where he attended grammar school at King Edward VI Camp Hill. At the age of 16, he struck out on his own by travelling to Australia for two years sheep farming, followed by three years in the RAF serving in Cyprus and Egypt. Bowker had always wanted to write, which drew him in to teaching back in Birmingham, qualifying from Saltley College in 1957.
