Marcos Villasana
Marcos Villasana is a Mexican former professional boxer and former WBC featherweight champion. Villasana first challenged Azumah Nelson for the WBC featherweight title, losing a narrow split decision on February 25, 1986. A rematch 18 months later was also unsuccessful, as Nelson won a unanimous decision. Villasana fought to a draw for the WBA featherweight title against Antonio Esparragoza on June 23, 1988, with Villasana getting a point deducted for a low blow in the 5th round. Villasana's very next bout was a third shot at the WBC featherweight title against champion Jeff Fenech, which resulted in a unanimous decision defeat. Shortly thereafter, Fenech relinquished the title and moved to the super featherweight division. Villasana won the vacant WBC featherweight title June 2, 1990, defeating Paul Hodkinson. Paul Hodkinson (born 14 September 1965 in Kirkby, Liverpool, England) is a former professional boxer. Hodkinson fought at Featherweight and is the former British, European and World (WBC) Featherweight Title holder. Amateur career Paul Hodkinson first caught the eye as an amateur bantamweight in the 1984-85 season with a series of good displays for young England and later for the full international side; but John Davidson a hard hitting and mature Northerner proved a little too rugged for him and Hodkinson’s ABA title campaign came to an abrupt finish in the first round. Jeff Fenech
Jeff Fenech (born 28 May 1964) is an Australian former professional boxer who competed between 1984 and 2008. He won world titles in three weight divisions, having held the IBF bantamweight title from 1985 to 1987, the WBC super-bantamweight title from 1987 to 1988, the WBC featherweight title from 1988 to 1990. He was awarded by the WBC his "fourth weight division" title at super-featherweight in November 2022 after the WBC recounted the bout in his rematch against Azumah Nelson. Fenech was trained by renowned Sydney-based trainer Johnny Lewis. Antonio Esparragoza Betancourt (born 2 September 1959) is a Venezuelan former boxer who is a former WBA Featherweight Champion of the World. Amateur career Esparragoza represented Venezuela as a Featherweight at the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games. Azumah Nelson
Azumah Nelson (born 19 July 1958) is a Ghanaian former professional boxer who competed from 1979 to 2008. He was a two-weight world champion, having held the WBC featherweight title from 1984 to 1987 and the WBC super-featherweight title twice between 1988 and 1997. He also challenged once for the unified WBC and IBF lightweight titles in 1990. At regional level he held the ABU, and Commonwealth featherweight titles between 1980 and 1982. Widely considered one of the greatest African boxers of all time, he is currently ranked as the 31st greatest pound for pound boxer of all time by BoxRec.
