Marcos Moneta
Marcos Moneta (born 7 March 2000) is an Argentine rugby sevens player. He made his debut appearance at the Olympics representing Argentina at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Moneta received World Rugby's Men’s Sevens Player of the Year award for 2021. Career Moneta represented Argentina at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics and was part of the Argentine team which defeated France 24-14 in the final to claim the gold medal in the boys rugby sevens tournament. He was also named in Argentine senior rugby sevens squad for the 2018–19 World Rugby Sevens Series. In 2021, he scored a hattrick of tries in a match against Kenya in the final of the Mi Visión del Juego final and was also the MVP of the tournament. Moneta was also selected to Argentina squad to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the men's rugby sevens tournament. Argentina National Rugby Sevens Team
The Argentina national rugby sevens team competes in the World Rugby Sevens Series, in the Rugby World Cup Sevens, and, beginning in 2016, in the Summer Olympics. The Argentine rugby sevens team has had some success in the World Rugby Sevens Series, finishing third in 2003-04, and finishing among the top six teams in five out of six seasons from 2003-04 to 2008-09. Argentina won the USA Sevens tournament in 2004 and again in 2009. During its peak, the Argentine team was led by Santiago Gómez Cora, who is ranked all-time first in tries (230), fifth in points (1,178), and third in appearances (61). Argentina's best finish at the Rugby World Cup Sevens came in 2009, when the team reached the finals and finished as runners up. 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens
The 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens was the eighth edition of the Rugby World Cup Sevens organised by World Rugby. The 2022 tournament, comprising 24 men's and 16 women's teams as previously, was played over three days in one venue in September. It took place at the Cape Town Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa between 9 and 11 September 2022. It was the first ever Rugby World Cup Sevens in Africa. The dates were chosen to take into account in the Commonwealth Games tournament which took place in July the same year. Bidding A record 11 unions formally expressed interest in hosting Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022. The unions were issued formal bid application documents by World Rugby and had to submit their responses by 16 July 2019.
