Marco Sassone, OMRI (born 1942, in Campi Bisenzio) is an American-Italian painter. He moved to Florence in 1954, where his interest in painting began. Campi Bisenzio is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Florence in the Italian region Tuscany, located about northwest of Florence. History The word Campi in the municipality's name stems from the fields which are widespread in the lands around the town. The current name of Campi Bisenzio was assumed only in 1862, with the addition of the name of the Bisenzio river that runs through the town. The 1966 flood of the Arno ( it, Alluvione di Firenze del 4 novembre 1966) in Florence killed 101 people and damaged or destroyed millions of masterpieces of art and rare books. It is considered the worst flood in the city's history since 1557. Peter Clothier is a British writer and art critic who has published reviews, books of poetry, novels, and non-fiction works, mostly with a focus on art and artists. Early life and education Clothier was born in Newcastle upon Tyne and spent his early years in English country villages. His father Reverend Canon Harry L. Clothier was an Anglican minister. Clothier attended Windlesham House School and graduated from Lancing College in 1953. He went on to attend Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, graduating in 1958 with a BA in Modern and Medieval Languages and French Philology. The 1980 Irpinia earthquake ( it, Terremoto dell'Irpinia) took place in Italy on 23 November 1980, with a moment magnitude of 6.9 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of X (''Extreme''). It left at least 2,483 people dead, at least 7,700 injured, and 250,000 homeless. Donelson Farquhar Hoopes, Jr. (December 3, 1932 – February 22, 2006) was an American art historian and curator. Hoopes was a scholar of nineteenth- and twentieth-century American art, especially the work of Thomas Eakins, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, and Marco Sassone. Career Born in Philadelphia to Donelson Wood and Esther Taylor Dechert, Hoopes served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He then received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 1960. In that year, Hoopes began his curatorial career as Director of the Portland Museum of Art. In 1962, he moved to the Corcoran Gallery of Art for a role as curator. Two years later, Hoopes curated the landmark exhibition there titled ''The Private World of John Singer Sargent''. Bernheim-Jeune gallery is one of the oldest art galleries in Paris. Alessandro "Sandro" Pertini (; 25 September 1896 – 24 February 1990) was an Italian socialist politician who served as the president of Italy from 1978 to 1985.
