Marco Acerbi
Marco Acerbi (Aosta, 29 April 1949-Cervinia, 24 July 1989) was an Italian hurdler. Biography Acerbi, one times national champion, has participated in the 1972 Summer Olympics, died prematurely at the age of 40 years. After his retirement from athletics, he served as an official for the Italian Athletics Federation and founded the Valle d’Aosta Triathlon Association. The men's 110 metres hurdles event at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich was held from 3–7 September. Thirty-nine athletes from 27 nations competed. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Rod Milburn of the United States, the nation's ninth of nine consecutive victories and the 15th overall gold medal in the event for the Americans. Guy Drut's silver was France's first medal in the event and the best result by a non-American since 1936. Background This was the 17th appearance of the event, which is one of 12 athletics events to have been held at every Summer Olympics.
