Marcel Worms
Marcel Worms (born Amsterdam, 1951) is a piano player from the Netherlands. Education After completing secondary education at the Vossius Gymnasium, Worms started studying Biology. He became a biology teacher at the Gymnasium Felisenum until 1985. At that time he decided to go to the Conservatorium van Amsterdam; he finished the Conservatory in 1987 mainly taught by Hans Dercksen. Thereafter he specialised in 20th-century piano music and chamber music respectively with Alexandre Hrisanide and Hans Broekman. He also took lessons from the famous Russian pianist Yuri Egorov, and from Alicia de Larrocha. Blues project His program "New Blues for piano", to which many well-known Dutch composers contributed with a piece, was premiered in January 1997 at the Bimhuis, a jazz centre in Amsterdam. Some 200 new blues pieces have been composed for this project including pieces from about 50 different countries around the world. Yuri Egorov
Youri Aleksandrovich Egorov (russian: Юрий Александрович Егоров; 28 May 1954 – 16 April 1988) was a Soviet and Monegasque classical pianist. Early years Born in Kazan, USSR, Youri Egorov studied music at the Kazan Conservatory from the age of 6 until age 17. One of his early teachers was Irina Dubinina, a former pupil of Yakov Zak. At the age of 17, in 1971, Egorov took 4th Prize in Paris at the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition. He next studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Yakov Zak. Egorov remained at the Moscow Conservatory for six years. In 1974, Egorov won the Bronze Medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. In 1975, he was awarded the 3rd Prize at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium. Federico Mompou
Frederic Mompou Dencausse (; alternatively Federico Mompou; 16 April 189330 June 1987) was a Spanish and Catalan composer and pianist. He is remembered for his solo piano music and songs. Life Early years Mompou was born in Barcelona to the lawyer Frederic Mompou and his wife Josefina Dencausse, who was of French origin. His brother (1888–1968) became a painter. His sketch of a simple farmhouse appeared on the covers of all of Frederic's published music. Mompou studied piano under Pedro Serra at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu before going to Paris, to study at the Conservatoire de Paris, which was headed by Gabriel Fauré. Mompou had heard Fauré perform in Barcelona when he was nine years old, and his music and performing style had made a powerful and lasting impression on him. Bimhuis
The Bimhuis is a concert hall for jazz and improvised music in Amsterdam. With an average of 150 performances a year the Bimhuis is the main stage for these musical genres in the Netherlands. In 2017 it was also a host for the 17th edition of the Sonic Acts Festival. The Bimhuis was founded in 1973 and opened on October 1, 1974. Until the summer of 2004 it was located at Oude Schans 73–77 in the centre of the city. Alicia De Larrocha
Alicia de Larrocha y de la Calle (23 May 192325 September 2009) was a Spanish pianist and composer. She was considered one of the great piano legends of the 20th century. Reuters called her "the greatest Spanish pianist in history", ''Time'' "one of the world's most outstanding pianists", and ''The Guardian'' "the leading Spanish pianist of her time". She won multiple Grammy Awards and a Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts. She is credited with bringing greater popularity to the compositions of Isaac Albéniz and Enrique Granados.
