Marcel Maréchal
Marcel Maréchal (25 December 1937 – 11 June 2020) was a French actor, writer, and director. Biography Since 1958, Maréchal had a successful acting career. That year, he founded the Théâtre du Cothurne in Lyon. Other theatres he worked at included the Théâtre du Huitième, the Théâtre du Gymnase, Théâtre National de la Criée, Théâtre du Rond-Point, and Trétaux de France. In 2001, Maréchal founded the Festival Théâtral de Figeac. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to contemporary playwrights such as Jacques Audiberti, Jean Vauthier, and Louis Guilloux. He was invited to the Festival d'Avignon on several occasions. Marcel Maréchal died on 11 June 2020 in Paris at the age of 82. ''Life of Galileo'' (), also known as ''Galileo'', is a play by the 20th century German dramatist Bertolt Brecht and collaborator Margarete Steffin with incidental music by Hanns Eisler. The play was written in 1938 and received its first theatrical production (in German) at the Zurich Schauspielhaus, opening on the 9th of September 1943. This production was directed by Leonard Steckel, with set-design by Teo Otto. The cast included Steckel himself (as Galileo), Karl Paryla and Wolfgang Langhoff. The second (or "American") version was written in English between 1945–1947 in collaboration with Charles Laughton, and opened at the Coronet Theatre in Los Angeles on 30 July 1947. Mr Puntila And His Man Matti
''Mr Puntila and his Man Matti'' (german: Herr Puntila und sein Knecht Matti) is an epic comedy by the German modernist playwright Bertolt Brecht. It was written in 1940 and first performed in 1948. The story describes the aristocratic land-owner Puntila's relationship to his servant, Matti, as well as his daughter, Eva, whom he wants to marry off to an Attaché. Eva herself loves Matti and so Puntila has to decide whether to marry his daughter to his driver or to an Attaché, while he also deals with a drinking problem. In his essay "Notes on the Folk Play" (written in 1940), Brecht warns that " naturalistic acting is not enough in this case" and recommends an approach to staging that draws on the ''Commedia dell'Arte''. Molière Award
The Molière Award recognises achievement in live French theatre and is the national theatre award of France. The awards are presented and decided by the ''Association professionnelle et artistique du théâtre'' (APAT) and supported by the Ministry of Culture at an annual ceremony, called the Nuit des Molières ("Night of the Molières") in Paris. The awards are given for French productions and performances. The Molière Awards are considered the highest French theatre honour, the equivalent to the American Tony Award, the British Olivier Award and the Spanish Premios Max.
