Maranatha! Music
Maranatha! Music is a Christian music record label which was founded as a nonprofit ministry of Calvary Chapel in 1971. The label is distributed by Capitol Christian Music Group, a division of Universal Music. Background In the early 1970s Calvary Chapel was home to more than 15 musical groups that were representative of the Jesus movement. In 1971, Maranatha! Music was founded as a nonprofit outreach of Calvary Chapel to popularize and promote a new, folk-rock style of hymns and worship songs influenced by the Jesus people. Some of the early Maranatha! recording groups were Sweet Comfort Band, Love Song, Chuck Girard, Children of the Day, The Way, Debby Kerner, Mustard Seed Faith, Karen Lafferty, and Daniel Amos. Chuck Smith (pastor)
Charles Ward "Chuck" Smith (June 25, 1927 – October 3, 2013) was an American pastor who founded the Calvary Chapel movement. Beginning with the 25-person Costa Mesa congregation in 1965, Smith's influence now extends to "more than 1,000 churches nationwide and hundreds more overseas", some of which are among the largest churches in the United States. He has been called "one of the most influential figures in modern American Christianity." Early life and career Charles Ward Smith was born on June 25, 1927, in Ventura, California, to Charles and Maude Smith. He was the second of four children. Daniel Amos
Daniel Amos (aka D. A., Dä) is an American Christian rock band formed in 1974 by Terry Scott Taylor on guitars and vocals, Marty Dieckmeyer on bass guitar, Steve Baxter (musician), Steve Baxter on guitars and Jerry Chamberlain on lead guitars. The band currently consists of Taylor, guitarist Greg Flesch and drummer Ed McTaggart. Over the band's career, they have included keyboardist Mark Cook, drummer Alex MacDougall, bassist Tim Chandler and keyboardist Rob Watson (musician), Rob Watson with sounds that experimented with country rock, rock music, rock, New wave music, new wave and alternative rock. Terry Clark (Christian Musician)
Terry Clark (born September 22, 1946) is an American Christian music singer and songwriter. He is a pioneer of the Jesus music genre, later to be called contemporary Christian music. Biography Clark is a native of San Diego. Though raised in a Christian home, as a young man he began sampling many lifestyles. A tour of duty with the military in Southeast Asia (1968–1971) left him with severe post traumatic stress. As a result, he pushed away from reality. In that condition, he experienced a powerful glimpse of God's love for him. He recounts: "Jesus said 'Terry, I know how you feel—I've seen everything human beings have ever done--but I want you to understand the difference in our response to that. You've decided not to be a human being and I've decided to become one.'" An overwhelming sense of God's love began a transformation in his life. Jonathan Butler
Jonathan Kenneth Butler (born 10 October 1961) is a South African singer-songwriter and guitarist. His music is often classified as R&B, jazz fusion or worship music. Biography Born and raised in Athlone, Cape Town, South Africa, during Apartheid, Butler started singing and playing acoustic guitar as a child. Racial segregation and poverty during Apartheid has been the subject of many of his records. His first single was the first by a black artist played by white radio stations in the racially segregated South Africa and earned a Sarie Award, South Africa's equivalent to the Grammy Awards. Charles Billingsley (musician)
Charles Billingsley (born January 7, 1970 in Clovis, NM) is a Preacher, christian singer, worship leader, songwriter, speaker and author. Career Billingsley began his solo career the day after he graduated from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama in 1992. After two years, he joined the contemporary Christian music group NewSong. In 1994, they released ''People Get Ready'' featuring "Arise My Love." That album had four number one hits. After two years with NewSong, Charles left to pursue a solo career, averaging 200 concerts a year. Broken Records was an American Christian rock record label founded in 1985. The label closed in the early 1990s. Broken Records became an important label in the development of both the West Coast Christian alternative rock and Christian hip hop scenes. It focused primarily on modern rock, punk and new wave music.
