Mar Gregory Karotemprel
Mar Gregory Karotemprel (born 1933) is an East Syriac Catholic bishop and theologian. He is Bishop Emeritus of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Rajkot. Life Mar Gregory Karotemprel was born on 6 May 1933 at Chemmalamattam in Kottayam district. He joined the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate congregation and made his first profession on 8 December 1955 at Mannanam. He did his philosophical and theological studies at Dharmaram Vidya Kshethram, Bangalore. He was ordained priest on 17 May 1963. He was elected as the Provincial of the S.H. Province of the CMI congregation in 1978. While serving as the Provincial, he was appointed as the bishop of Rajkot. His consecration and installation as bishop took place on 24 April 1983. The Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Rajkot is an Eastern Catholic eparchy in India under the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. It was created by Pope Paul VI's Bull " De recta fidelium" in 1977, separating it from the Diocese of Ahmedabad. Its cathedral is Sacred Heart Syro-Malabar Cathedral, Rajkot. History On 16 July 2010, Pope Benedict XVI named Mar Jose Chittooparambil as the bishop of the Syro-Malabar Catholic eparchy of Rajkot. The bishop-elect was born in 1954 in Neeleswaram, India, was ordained to the priesthood in 1985, and is currently Prior General of St. Xavier's Province in Rajkot. The Eparchy of Palai is a Syro-Malabar Catholic ecclesiastical territory or eparchy of the Catholic Church with an area of 1166 km2 comprising the Meenachil taluk and a few villages of the neighbouring taluks in Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki districts of central Kerala in South India.
