Manx Care
Manx Care was established in April 2021 by the Government of the Isle of Man as an arm's length organisation, established to focus on delivery of health and social care on the Island. This followed a review by Sir Jonathan Michael. The Department of Health and Social Care (Isle of Man) continues to be responsible for strategy, planning, policy and regulation. Its offices are at Noble's Hospital. Sir Andrew Foster is the chair of the organisation. It has established a partnership with the Great North Air Ambulance to transfer acutely ill patients. In November 2021 Foster reported a lack of progress with community-based care and the identification of services that would be better delivered off the island and problems with sharing data across different parts of the organisation. Government Of The Isle Of Man
The Council of Ministers ( gv, Coonseil ny Shirveishee; often abbreviated informally to "CoMin") is the principal executive organ of the Isle of Man Government. Its role is similar to, though not identical with, that of the Cabinet in the United Kingdom. Until 1990, its title was the Executive Council. The Executive Council, chaired by the Lieutenant Governor and including members of Tynwald, was established in 1949, and gradually thereafter became the effective government of the Island. Jonathan Michael
Sir Jonathan Michael is a British nephrologist and medical executive. From 2000 to 2007, he was the chief executive of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust where he received his medical training, qualifying in 1970, before his 20-year career as a clinical nephrologist. He spent much of his medical career at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, before becoming first medical director and chief executive of University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust. In 2007, he became the head of British Telecom's Health division. In 2010, it was announced that he would be moving back into the NHS as Chief Executive of Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust. He announced in 2014 that he would be leaving the trust and is to become the chief medical officer of the 6PM Group, an IT software firm. Noble's Hospital
Noble’s Hospital is a hospital on the Isle of Man. It is one of only two hospitals on the island, and as of 1 April 2021, is run by Manx Care; having previously been run by the Department of Health and Social Care History In 1947 the hospital had 137 beds with an average occupancy of 122 patients. The Cubbon Wing, for chronically sick patients, financed by the estate of the late Thomas Cubbon, was added in 1951. A new Nurses' Home was built in 1953. At the end of 1955, there was a waiting list for admission of 279 patients. Some patients had to be transferred to the White Hoe. The hospital relocated in 2003 from its previous location at Westmoreland Road into a new building constructed on a greenfield site at the outskirts of the main town of Douglas. Great North Air Ambulance
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) is a registered charity and air ambulance based in the United Kingdom. It operates a dedicated helicopter emergency service for the North of England with three aircraft. It serves North Yorkshire, the North-East, Cumbria, and the Scottish borders. Current Operations GNAAS operates three Dauphin helicopters from its two bases at Langwathby, near Penrith in Cumbria, and Urlay Nook, near Eaglescliffe in County Durham. Between July and December 2021, the service had an average of 85 helicopter call-outs per month. In hours of darkness, when the helicopters do not fly, North East Ambulance Service funds a Medical Emergency Response Incident Team (MERIT), which is staffed by a doctor and paramedic team from GNAAS.
