Manufacturing Innovation Hub for Apparel, Textiles + Wearable Tech (also known as Manufacture New York) is a business incubator in Brooklyn. It is housed on the fifth floor of Storehouse No. 2, U.S. Navy Fleet Supply Base, at 850 Third Avenue owned by the City of New York, which has been renamed to Liberty View Industrial Plaza. The incubator offers 1,500 to 30,000 square foot spaces for manufacturing startups and is operated by Manufacture New York, a private company, since December 2014. The project was the idea of Bob Bland, a New York fashion designer who secured a $50,000 grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration to found Manufacture New York and locate an incubator space in the city. Advanced Functional Fabrics Of America
Advanced Functional Fabrics of America (AFFOA) is a public-private partnership led by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The partnership was created as a component of the Manufacturing USA research network in April 2016 (then known as the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation), and received $75 million in 2016 from United States Department of Defense as Revolutionary Fibers and Textiles Manufacturing Innovation Hub to study smart fabric for warfighters. The members are 32 universities, 16 industry members, 72 manufacturing entities, and 26 startup incubators. Corporate members include American apparel companies Nike and New Balance, and medical device manufacturer Medtronic. Mari Lynn Foulger (born December 17, 1982), better known as Bob Bland, is an American fashion designer and activist. Bland co-chaired the 2017 Women's March but later resigned from the 2019 Women's March board following accusations of antisemitism and various internal controversies.
