Manteigas () is a town and a municipality in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 3,430, in an area of . The municipality is located in Guarda District; in Centro Region and Beira Interior Norte Subregion. It is located in the Serra da Estrela Mountains, the highest elevation in mainland Portugal. Cities nearby: Guarda, Seia, Gouveia and Covilhã. The municipal holiday is March 4. Adelino Nunes
Adelino Carlos Morais Nunes (born 6 September 1960) is a retired Portuguese footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. Club career Nunes was born in Manteigas, Guarda District. During 18 seasons as a professional, he played mainly for Vitória de Setúbal (seven seasons in two separate spells). In the 1984 summer, after the first stint at the Sado River side, he signed for top division giants S.L. Benfica, being a relatively important member of the teams that won the 1987 national championship – with the player contributing with 24 games and a career-best eight goals, including a brace in a 2–0 away win against S.C. Farense on 1 February 1987 – and three consecutive domestic cups. In 1990, after two years with C.S. Marítimo, 30-year-old Nunes returned to Setúbal, suffering relegation in his first year but helping Vitória return to the top flight in his third, already as a fringe player however. Seia
Seia () is a municipality in Guarda District in Portugal. The population in 2021 was 21,755, in an area of . Its urban population is about 7,000. Seia was elevated to city status on July 3, 1986. The municipality is situated on the northwestern slope of Serra da Estrela, the highest mountain range in mainland Portugal, with a top height of 1993 meters. The present Mayor is António Luciano Silva Ribeiro, elected by the Socialist Party. The municipal holiday is July 3. Serra Da Estrela
Serra da Estrela () is the highest mountain range in Continental Portugal. Together with the Serra da Lousã it is the westernmost constituent range of the Sistema Central and also one of the highest in the system. It includes mainland Portugal's highest point at above mean sea level (although the summit of Mount Pico in the Portuguese Azores islands is higher). This point is not a distinctive mountain summit, but rather the highest point in a plateau, being known as Torre ("Tower" in English). Torre is an unusual summit in that it is accessible by a paved road. The peak has a topographic prominence of and its parent peak is Pico Almanzor, in Spain. Guarda () is a city and a municipality in the District of Guarda and the capital of the Beiras e Serra da Estrela sub-region in central Portugal. The population in 2021 was 40,126, in an area of with 31,224 inhabitants in the city proper in 2006. Founded by King Sancho I in 1199, Guarda is the city located at the highest altitude in Portugal ( a.s.l.) and one of the most important cities in the Portuguese region of Beira Alta. Beira Alta Province (; "Upper Beira") was a Portuguese province in the north of Portugal. Vast plateaus, river valleys, mountains, and castles abound in Beira Alta.
