Bruno Manser
Bruno Manser (25 August 1954 – presumed dead 10 March 2005) was a Swiss environmentalist and human rights activist. From 1984 to 1990, he stayed with the Penan tribe in Sarawak, Malaysia, organising several blockades against timber companies. After he emerged from the forests in 1990, he engaged in public activism for rainforest preservation and the human rights of indigenous peoples, especially the Penan, which brought him into conflict with the Malaysian government. He also founded the Swiss non-governmental organization (NGO) Bruno Manser Fonds in 1991. Manser disappeared during his last journey to Sarawak in May 2000 and is presumed dead. Leslie Thomas Manser, VC (11 May 1922 – 31 May 1942) was a British bomber pilot and a recipient of the Victoria Cross, which was awarded posthumously following an attack on the German city of Cologne. Early life Leslie Thomas Manser was born in New Delhi, India, during his father's employment as an engineer with the Post and Telegraph Department and, when the family returned to Britain, they settled in Radlett, Hertfordshire. He was a pupil of Victoria Boys' School, Kurseong, Darjeeling and Aldenham School, Elstree, Hertfordshire. Royal Air Force Manser was accepted by the Royal Air Force (RAF) in August 1940, and was commissioned as a pilot officer in May 1941. Michael Manser
Michael Manser (23 March 1929 – 8 June 2016) was a British architect. He was a president of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and established his own successful architecture practice in 1961. Education and career Born in Bristol, Manser studied architecture at Regent Street Polytechnic, now the University of Westminster. Before setting up his own practice Michael Manser Associates in 1961, Manser worked in London and the West Indies for Norman and Dawbarn. Pauline Manser (born 2 February 1969 in Mount Gambier, South Australia) is an Australian volleyball coach and former professional beach volleyball and indoor volleyball player. Career Playing indoor volleyball Manser represented Australia 104 times between 1987 and 1996. She was one of the inaugural inductees to the Australian Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2012 in recognition of her indoor volleyball career. Robert Marsack Manser (10 October 1880 – 15 February 1955) was an English first-class cricketer and solicitor. The second son of Frederick Manser, he was born at Tunbridge Wells in October 1880. He was educated at Tonbridge School, where he played for the school cricket team, before matriculating to Lincoln College, Oxford. He made a single appearance in first-class cricket for Hampshire against the touring South Africans at Alton in 1904. Batting twice in the match, he was dismissed in Hampshire's first innings for a single run by Johannes Kotze, while on their second innings he was dismissed without scoring by Jimmy Sinclair. Kevin Baden Manser (16 February 1929 – 21 December 2001) was an Australian actor best known for his career as a Dalek operator in the early seasons of the British science-fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. He was born in Adelaide and worked for South Australian Engineering and Water Supply until 1957, when he emigrated to London to work as a stage manager. This led to later work as a theatrical and television actor. In 1969 he returned to Australia and continued to play small parts on television while becoming involved with ''Doctor Who'' conventions. Riaan Manser (born 1973) is an explorer based in South Africa. He has done his exploring on a bicycle or a kayak. Notable firsts He was the first person to circumnavigate the coast of Africa by bicycle, a distance of 37,000 km, through 34 countries over two years and two months. In July 2009 he became the first person to kayak 5,000 km around Madagascar, alone and unaided.
