Manongarivo Special Reserve
Manongarivo Reserve is a wildlife reserve in the North-West of Madagascar in the region of Diana. Manongarivo is home to both the Sambirano mouse lemur and the Sambirano woolly lemur. Geography The reserve has a surface of 64,356 ha and is situated at 35 km from Ambanja. It has an elevation of 1013 metres. Flora and fauna The vegetation is composed of low- and mid-altitude dense humid forest. Low-altitude, dry-transitional forest covers 18% of the reserve, and is dominated by trees of ''Canarium'', ''Symphonia'' (and other species of Guttiferae), ''Terminalia'', ''Ravensara'' and species of Sapotaceae, with smaller trees such as ''Phyllarthron'' in the subcanopy. There are about sixty species of birds in the reserve, thirty of which are endemic to Madagascar. Ambanja
Ambanja is a city and commune in northern Madagascar. According to 2001 census the population of Ambanja was 28,468. Geography Ambanja is located on the northern berth of the Sambirano River and is crossed by the Route Nationale 6 ( Antsiranana - Mahajanga and Antananarivo). It is located at a road distance of 1 200 km north of Antananarivo and 237 km south-west of Antsiranana. The town belongs to the district of Ambanja, which is a part of Diana Region. It is served by the local Ampampamena Airport and small, local, maritime harbour at Ankify that is the gate to the islands of Nosy Be and Nosy Komba Education In addition to primary schooling the town offers secondary education at both junior and senior levels.
